Danny Joe Blackwell

Danny Joe Blackwell, 71, of Avon, formerly of Bloomington passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 10, 2023 at his home with his loving wife by his side. He was born on August 23, 1951 in Monroe County, Indiana the son of Hershel Elbert and Lois Marie (Murphy) Blackwell. Danny was a 1969 graduate of Heltonville High School. He was a US Army proudly serving his country during the Vietnam War. As a veteran he was stationed in Hawaii, Danny married Barbara Haina in 1975 in Hawaii. Danny was awarded sharpshooter status. Danny took pride in his service to his country. Quilts of Valor have honored Danny with a beautiful quilt. The Daughters of the American Revolution, Whispering Pines and Prairie Chapter honored his service to our country by flying an American Flag over Constitution Hall in Washington, DC in his name and presenting it to him. Danny was a member of the National Society Sons of the American Revolution, and a member of the Direct Descendants Cousins of David Crocket where his name is listed in the Crocket lineage. Danny was always soft-spoken kind and gentle man throughout his life. He enjoyed helping others when he was able. Danny and wife Debbie (Sipes) married on January 31, 2016. Both having a love for traveling, family gatherings and reunions and just sitting at home with Mickey the family guard dog, who will greatly miss cuddles from Danny. He also enjoyed going to car shows, garage sales, reading on his kindle, and spending time with family and friends. He will be missed by all who loved and knew him. Danny is survived by his wife, Debbie Blackwell of Avon; his children, Shelly Marie (Bill) Brooking; Clifford Kalani Johns; Sonny (Julie) Johns; Tania (Se’e) Valiau; Isaiah Blackwell; many grandchildren and great grandchildren; his sister, Patricia “Pat” Deprew; and several nieces; nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, Herchel and Lois Blackwell; his late wife, Barbara Blackwell; daughter, Kainoa (Johns) Rosa; three brothers, Ronald Dean Blackwell; Billy Herchel Blackwell; Denny Blackwell;. A funeral service will be held at 2:00pm Thursday, June 22, 2023 at the Allen Funeral Home 4155 S, Old St Rd 37 Bloomington. Visitation will be held from 11:00am until service time Thursday June 22, 2023 also at the funeral home.
