Wendell Leo Sims

Wendell Leo Sims, of Bloomington, passed away Monday morning February 3, 2014 at the Richland Bean Blossom Health and Living Center. He was born on October 22, 1922 in Whitehall, Indiana, the son of Roy and Lula (Gross) Sims. Wendell served in the United States Marine Corp. He was a member of Sherwood Oaks Christian Church. Wendell loved to go fishing and camping. He was a previous member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church where he served as Choir Director for several years. Wendell loved music and playing the harmonica. He was a member of the Rhythm Kitchen Band, Stanford Senior Club, Leisure Timers, BorrowedTime Club, did volunteer work with the Retired Senior Volunteers Program, RSVP, and was very active with The Livingstones Sunday Schoo, Clas At Sherwood Oaks Christian Church. Wendell is survived by three children Linda Moore (Ken) of Springfield, OH, Larry Sims (Melissa) of Moultrie, GA, and Lisa Ellis (Tom) of Bloomington; nine grandchildren Sarah Bustamante (Pete), Ethan Moore (Heather), Luke Moore (Laurie), Brandt Sims (Alicia), Morgan Ellis, Lindsey Ellis, Holton Ellis (Kim), Mimi Bair and Maegan Bair; twelve great-grandchildren; one brother Devon Sims (Margaret); and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife June Sims, five sisters Mary Hackler, Mildred Dunbar, Dorothy Mann, Shirley Smith, and Norma Culbert, and one granddaughter Tricia Moore. Funeral services for Wendell will be held Friday, February 7, 2014 at 11:00AM at Sherwood Oaks Christian Church. Tom Ellsworth will preside and entombment will follow in the Valhalla Memory Gardens. Visitation will be held Thursday, February 6, 2014 from 2:00PM until 8:00PM at Allen Funeral Home 4155 South Old Highway 37. There will be an hour of visitation also on Friday at the church from 10:00AM until the time of the service at 11:00AM. The family asks that memorial contributions may be made in Wendell's memory to the Livingstone's Sunday School Class in care of Sherwood Oaks Christian Church. The family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to all of the kind folks that took such wonderful car of their dad at the Richland Bean Blossom Health and Living Center.
