Allen E. Hacker

Allen E. Hacker, 69, of Bloomington, passed away on Friday, January 19, 2024 at the IU Hospice House in Bloomington, Indiana. Allen, known to many as “Big Al”, was born in Monroe County, IN on May 29, 1954 to the late Wilford and Norma (Conder) Hacker. After graduating from Bloomington High School in 1972, he went on to marry the love of his life, Nancy L. Hacker, who he spent 46 wonderful years with until her passing in 2019. Allen worked for Cook Incorporated for 39 years until retiring. He was fortunate to have met several life-long friends while working for Cook, which he considered family. He loved playing pranks and joking with others and giving them a “hard time”, but all in good humor. He loved planting and working in his garden during the spring/summer. Growing and sharing his vegetables each season was a highlight for him, particularly tomatoes, which would be no less the 20 plants each year. He also enjoyed tinkering with everything from lawn equipment to electronics. Allen’s family and friends were the center of his life. He was a beloved husband, father, brother and grandfather and will be deeply missed. Allen is survived by his children, Shanna Smith (Josh Smith), Josh Hacker; his sister, Diana Hawkins (Frank); grandchildren, Makaylee and Brayden Smith; sister- in-laws, Phyllis Solnzeff (Boris) and Judy Hart (Barry). Allen was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy; his parents, Wilford and Norma Hacker. A funeral service will be held at 11:00am on Friday, January 26, 2024 at Allen Funeral Home 4155 S. Old St Rd 37 Bloomington. With Rev. Danny Hillenburg officiating. Burial will follow at Valhalla Memory Gardens. Visitation will be held from 4:00pm until 8:00pm on Thursday, January 25, 2024 and from 10:00am until service time Friday both at the Allen Funeral Home. Allen’s family would like to thank Southern Indiana Home Care and their staff for allowing him to live at home for a long as able.
