Barbara Maxine (Gilbo) Vaught

Barbara Maxine (Gilbo) Vaught, age 92 of Bloomington, passed away Monday, December 11, 2023 at the IU Health Hospice House with family members by her side. She passed from complications resulting from dementia. Barbara was born April 16, 1931 in Bloomington, Indiana to Wayne and Pearl (Adams) Gilbo. She was a 1949 graduate of Bloomington High School. She married the love of her life Robert Joseph Vaught on November 24, 1951 in Bloomington, Indiana. They were happily married for fifty-nine years before “Bobby Joe” passed in 2010. She worked for Sarkes Tarzian and RCA in Bloomington. Barbara was a member of the Emanuel Baptist Church in Bloomington, and also a member of the Suburban Bowling League. She enjoyed her Wednesday luncheons at Pizza Hut and Baldy’s with the ladies. She was always on the go with her friends and family; she loved driving her little red car. Her extended family were those that attended the many horse shows all over the country. She was an amazing wife, mother and meme. Some of her favorite times were spent with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She will be deeply missed. Barbara is survived by her son, Wayne L. Vaught (Jody) of Springville; granddaughters, Buffie R. Vaught of Bloomington; and Brandy L. Albano (Jon) of Chesapeake, Virginia; and great grandchildren, Samantha M. Albano, Abigail A. Albano, Cora E. Mink and Daniel W. A. Albano; her sisters, Mary Kathryn (Kat) Baxter of Bloomington; Donna Sue Richardson of Unionville; Glenda (Phil) Deckard of Martinsville and Vicky (Rick) Robertson of Spencer and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, Wayne and Pearl (Adams) Gilbo and her second mother Marie Gilbo; her husband Robert Joseph Vaught; and his parents Howard and Agantha (Deckard Vaught) Edwards. The family would like to give special thanks to her friend Patti and the staff and nurses (Dorthy/Angi/Janet) of Bloomington Hospice for all of the help and wonderful care and support received during her illness. A funeral service will be held Thursday December 28, 2023 at 1:00pm at the Allen Funeral Home, 4155 S. Old St Rd 37 Bloomington with Phil Deckard officiating. Burial will follow at the Rose Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the funeral home Thursday, December 28, 2023 from 10:00am until the time of the service at 1:00pm. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Emanuel Baptist Church or the IU Health Hospice House. Also, her memory can be kept alive by eating at Baldy’s Pizza or Cheddars (Chatters as she called it). Allen Funeral Home and Crematory have been entrusted with arrangements.
