Bernard M. "Bernie" Goodman

Bernard M. “Bernie” Goodman, age 91, of Bloomington, Indiana, passed away peacefully at his home with his family by his side on Saturday, January 21, 2017. He was born on February 14, 1925 in Bloomington, Indiana, the son of Ora James and Mary Julia (Droll) Goodman. Bernie married Violet Pearl Webb on January 10, 1947 in Bloomington they were married 58 years. He was a WWII Veteran serving in the US Navy he served on two ships during the war the USS Allen M. Sumner, and the USS Dixie. After the war he worked as a carpenter, farmer and owner and operator of Wayne Feed store for over 15 years. He was a member of St John’s Catholic Church in Ellettsville in which he was very involved. Bernie loved his church, beekeeping, organic farming, raising cattle, he loved singing, and spending time with his family and friends, he will be greatly missed by all who loved and knew him. He is survived by his eleven children; Michele A. Arthur, James I. (Diana) Goodman, Barbara J. Dix, Mary J. (Guy) Gilliatt all of Bloomington, Patricia A. (Paul) Lechler of Reno, NV, Rosemary S. (David) Landis of Bloomington, Susan E. (Silas) DeVaney of Martinsville, Janet M. Sample of Bloomington, Deborah L. (Darrell) Inman of Williams, IN, Kathryn R. (Dan) Brown of Connecticut, John P. Goodman of Bloomington, twenty-seven grandchildren; Melody Richardson Norris, Samuel Goodman, Cody Goodman, Gabriel Hart, Charlie Dix, Pam Kirk, Cheryl Fike, Zachary Gilliatt, Bobbi Knapp, Tina Gilliatt, Jake Lechler, Robert Parks, Matthew Landis, Chris Landis, Melissa Smith, Kathleen Lorenzen, Charles Sample, Heather Fitzgerald, Danny Thomas, Sara Neidigh, Ashlie Chambers, Justin Chambers, Andrew Bernard Brown, Gracie Goodman, Samantha Goodman, Johnathon Goodman, Nick LaPresto, thirty-four great grandchildren, two great great grandchildren, one brother; Paul Goodman (Age 101) of Lafayette, one sister; Ruth Ann Cowden of Indianapolis, several nieces and nephews, and devoted friends “Our Brothers” Karl Schieffer, Ron Cornell, Ray Rothenbush. Bernard was preceded in death by his parents, wife, one son Philip Maurice Goodman, one daughter Martha Jane Goodman, one grandson Eddie Fike, and seven sisters. A Funeral Mass will be at 11:00am Friday, January 27, 2017 at the St John’s Catholic Church in Ellettsville, with Father Daniel Mahan officiating. Burial will follow at the Valhalla Memory Garden. Visitation will be Thursday, January 26, 2017 from 4:00pm until 8:00pm at the Allen Funeral Home & Crematory 4155 S. Old St Rd 37 and Friday from 10:00am until service time at the church.
