Bobbi Jean "BJ" Pungitore

Bobbi Jean “BJ” Pungitore, 55, of Bloomington passed away Thursday, August 1, 2019 at the Brown County Heath & Living Center in Nashville, Indiana. She was born on June 19, 1964 in Glens Falls, New York and was lovingly adopted by Verna Pungitore. Bobbi was a 1982 graduate of Oshkosh West High School in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, and attended Ivy Tech Community College in Bloomington. In her early years, she participated in the Special Olympics. Her determination to stay active and feed her competitive spirit led her to the Monroe County YMCA where she was a volunteer staff member for over 20 years helping in many areas, and in particular, with special needs members and programs. She was a former member of the St Charles Borromeo Catholic Church where she served as a Eucharistic minister. Being a resident of the Brown County Health & Living in Nashville didn’t stop Bobbi from her love of volunteering and helping others. She was a presence and a help there daily to staff and residents. Bobbi signed and taught signing and had her certificate from the American Sign Language Board. Though it was a challenge for her, she lived independently for most of her life. Part of that time, she had a service dog, Amber, who she used and loved very much. She loved to draw, paint, read, write stories, fish, volunteer, and she especially loved people. She had a deep love for God and shared His Word with others on a daily basis. She lived life fully despite what we would refer to as her disabilities and she never complained. She will be greatly missed by all who loved and knew her. Bobbi is survived by her aunt Catherine DeAngelos and many cousins, nephews and nieces from the Pungitore family, cousins Kathy Hampton and Lisa Dawson from California, her extended family, the McConnells, her dear friends Mark and Jacqueline Danner, Kelly and Matheau Martinez, and her sister angles who loved and cared for her, Ellen Wildridge, Janie Harden and Jessica Eck. She was preceded in death by her mother, Verna Pungitore, the love of her life Greg Lynch, her uncle Frank Pungitore, her aunt Grace Hampton, and her grandparents. A funeral service will be held at 6:00pm Thursday, August 8, 2019 at the Allen Funeral Home & Crematory 4155 S. Old St Rd 37 Bloomington, with Father Mike Keucher officiating. Visitation will be held from 4:00pm to 6:00pm Thursday, August 8, 2019 at the funeral home. Cremation Rites have been accorded. Memorial contributions can be made in lieu of flowers to the Brown County Health and Living Center, 55 Willow Street, Nashville IN 47448, which will help fund their art program and activity cart.
