Carol Jean Ritchey

Carol Jean Ritchey, age 63, of Bloomington, Indiana, passed away on March 28, 2026, at her residence. She was born on December 3, 1962, in Indianapolis to Harold and Mary Plummer. She graduated from Warren Central High School in 1981, and she had a career as a medical insurance coder for more than 25 years. Carol is survived by her daughters, Abigail and Allison Ritchey; her mother, Mary Plummer; her sisters, Elaine Poole and Nancy Gartrell; and her nieces, Leslie (Mitchell) Klosterman, Cai Gartrell, and Amy (Eric) Shipp. She was preceded in death by her father, Harold Plummer; her sister, Lea Ann Sherlock; her nephews, Doug Frazer and Ryan Frazer; and her brothers-in-law, Denny Poole and Chris Gartrell. Carol was a kind and caring individual with a great sense of humor. She adored animals, especially her cat, Olive. Music resonated deeply with Carol, and she loved to go to concerts and dance with friends. You could find her jamming to Bruce Springsteen, Pearl Jam, Mt. Joy, Caamp and Cage the Elephant. She had a major sweet tooth and usually had an emergency supply of chocolate or candy in her purse. Carol loved to travel, whether it was a woodsy Brown County cabin trip with her daughters or a tropical beach getaway with her sisters and friends. She enjoyed relaxing outdoors, especially by the pool or on a patio where she could laugh and chat with the people she cared about. Carol had an artistic streak and an appreciation for midcentury modern and Art Deco designs. She had a great sense of style, and you could usually find her decked out in rings and silver or turquoise jewelry. She was an unmatched online shopper and took pride in scoring great deals on purses or shoes on Ebay. Carol will be remembered for her wit, kindness and love of music. Private family services will be held on Saturday, April 11, 2026. A public Celebration of Life will be held from 4-7 p.m. on Saturday, April 11, 2026, at The Eagle’s Nest at The Golf Club at Eagle Pointe, 2250 E Pointe Rd, Bloomington, IN 47401. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Monroe County Humane Association or the Midwest Pages to Prisoners Project.
