Charles R. "Charlie" Pitman

Charles R. "Charlie" Pitman, 87, of Bloomington went to be with his Lord and Savoir Jesus Christ at the I.U. Health and Hospice House on Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2012. His loving family was at his side until his earthly departure, continuing to render him care for his every need. He was born on April 5, 1925 in Mt. Vernon, Kentucky the son of Beasil and Ella Mae (Rowe) Pitman. A faithful member of the West Second St. Church of Christ, Charlie rededicated his life to Christ at the age of 82, knowing that it is never too late. He was a retired employee of High Speed Tire and Recap Co. in Bloomington and also worked for ASI Security Co. as a security guard. Charlie will be fondly remembered by his family as a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, known to all of them as "Poppy". They will continue to remember his love of Bluegrass music and never having met a stranger, but friends he hadn't met yet. His survivors include three daughters; Pamela J. Good, Barbara J. Brendel and Laura M. Pitman, all of Bloomington, three sons; Mark V. Pitman (Teresa McIntosh) of Bloomington, John R. Cole of Columbus and Brian R. Pitman, five grandchildren; Mark A. Pitma, Leah Lairot, Jon Norris, Chantell Halle and Sara Beth Hackney, five great grandchildren; Clayton Lairot, Katelyn Halle, Kimberly Halle, Sammie Halle III and Liam Norris, his extended step-grandchildren; Savannah Meyers and Alex James Michael and his three sisters; Stella Koontz of Bloomington and Virginia Graves and Lorene Pitman, both of Paris, KY. He was preceded in death by his wife, Judy (Cazee) Pitman in 2000, one step-son, John Cazee, two sisters; Nellie Hood and Marie Corns and three brothers, Vernon Jr. Pitman, William Pitman and James T. Pitman. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Dec. 15, 2012 at Allen Funeral Home with Bro. Mike Davis officiating. Burial will be at Clover Hill Cemetery in Harrodsburg. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 4:00-8:00 p.m. and one hour preceding the services on Saturday. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association or to the Bloomington Home Health and Hospice for Hospice House, in care of the funeral home.
