D. Bruce Wallace

D. Bruce Wallace, age 69, passed away at home on Lake Monroe on Friday, Nov 6 after a long battle with kidney cancer. He was born July 6, 1940 in Atchison, KS. His life's work was helping people through improving their communities. In the late 60's, he began this work, focusing on community action and fair housing in Kansas, then in Southern Mississippi. In 1973, he founded Administrative Resources association, a shared economic and community development department for member cities and towns in southern Indiana. For more than 25 years, Bruce and ARa helped negotiate and package incentive financing for more than 200 new industrial ventures resulting in an investment of more than $297 million and the creation of more than 3,900 new jobs. Bruce worked with more than 100 different grant programs for projects involving low-income housing, park and recreation facilities, new public buildings, downtown and neighborhood revitalization programs, law enforcement programs, leveraging literally hundreds of millions of dollars in private investment, more than any other governmental (or private consulting) organization in Indiana. He was presented the key to the City of Madison for his assistance following the destruction of the 1974 tornado. Later, Bruce was presented the Sagamore of the Wabash, the highest award in the state, by then Governor Frank O'Bannon, for his commitment to improving the quality of life for the residents of Indiana. His passions included enjoying the beauty of southern Indiana from his motorcycle, his sailboat and his dock on Lake Monroe. He was a past Commodore of the Lake Monroe Sailing Association, and past- President of the Harbour Pointe Board. At the time of his death he was Vice President of the Harbour Pointe Board and serving on the Board of Directors of the Pointe Services Association (PSA). He maintained web sites for the Pointe and for kidney cancer information sites. Bruce is survived by longtime companion Myra Wilson, children Steven (Linda Roos) of Bloomington and Heather (John Schuetzle) of Edina, MN; stepchildren Lisa Kalamaja and Jennifer Holdredge, grandchildren Rebecca & Zachary Wallace, and Karl & Elizabeth Schuetzle; child and grandchild of Myra, Michelle (Travis) & Delaney Baker ;brothers Wayne (Linda), Fred( Marianne) and Chuck (Louise) all of Kansas. He was preceded in death by his parents Dr. and Mrs. Wayne O Wallace, Atchison, KS. A gathering of friends to celebrate his life will be held on Saturday, Nov 14 from 2-4 pm at the Eagles Nest at the Point Golf and Tennis Club.
