Danny "Dan" Keith Polley

With profound sadness and deep gratitude for a life well lived, we announce the passing of Danny “Dan” Polley, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. Dan passed peacefully surrounded by the love of his family after a courageous thirty-year battle with numerous health challenges. Though his earthly journey has ended, the legacy he leaves behind will continue to inspire all who knew and loved him. Dan is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Tereasa Polley; daughter, Sherry Kay; grandson, Shawn (Destiny Brown) Kay; brother, Larry (Cheryll) J. Polley; several brother and sister in-laws who were practically full siblings to Dan-- Tony, Sheila, Karen, Allen, and John. Dan was preceded in death by his parents, John and Doris Polley; paternal grandparents, Jesse and Zella Polley; maternal grandparents, Harley and Bessie Rayle; sister-in-law, Willena Cook; and nieces, Tammy and Trista; and several aunts, uncles and cousins. Dan was a man of strong character, unwavering faith, and deep conviction. He was a natural leader who earned the respect and admiration of family, friends, coworkers, and everyone fortunate enough to know him. His wisdom, integrity, generosity, and willingness to help others made him someone people trusted and respected. He possessed a quiet strength that carried him through life’s greatest challenges and inspired those around him. For more than 30 years, Dan faithfully served at Indiana University Physical Plant, where his dedication, work ethic, and problem-solving abilities were highly valued. He had an extraordinary gift for figuring things out. Whether repairing equipment, fixing a musical instrument, helping a friend, or tackling a difficult challenge, Dan rarely met a problem he couldn’t solve. His mechanical aptitude, creativity, and determination were simply remarkable. A gifted self-taught musician, Dan found great joy in playing the guitar, banjo, and mandolin. Music was woven throughout his life, and he possessed a rare talent for repairing and restoring instruments. Whether playing for family and friends or quietly enjoying music on his own, it was one of the many ways he expressed his creativity and connected with others. Dan’s greatest joy was his family. He treasured time spent with those he loved, whether gathered around a meal, enjoying a day on the water, sharing stories, or simply being together. He was a devoted family man whose love and presence provided strength and stability to those around him. He had a playful sense of humor and loved teasing the people he cared about most. Thankfully, they loved teasing him right back, creating countless memories filled with laughter, love, and joy. An avid sportsman and outdoorsman, Dan enjoyed boating, collecting model cars, and pursuing the hobbies that brought him happiness. He had a generous and charitable heart, always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. He gave freely of his time, talents, and resources often, without seeking recognition or thanks. Dan was also a lifelong student of faith, politics, history, and biblical prophecy. He loved studying Scripture, discussing current events, exploring religious topics, and engaging in thoughtful conversations about world affairs and end-times prophecy. His curiosity, intellect, and passion for learning remained with him throughout his life. His faith in God provided a foundation that guided him through both the joys and hardships of life. Despite facing decades of health challenges, Dan met adversity with remarkable courage, resilience, and determination. Time and again, he demonstrated a fighting spirit that inspired family, friends, and caregivers alike. While illness may have affected his body, it never diminished his character, his love for others, or his desire to keep moving forward. He taught those around him the true meaning of perseverance. Dan will be remembered not only for what he accomplished, but for who he was—a loving husband, devoted father and grandfather, trusted friend, gifted musician, skilled problem-solver, faithful servant of God, and a man whose life touched countless others. He made people feel welcomed, valued, respected, and loved. While his family grieves the loss of his physical presence, they find comfort in knowing that his spirit is now free from the burdens he carried for so many years. His legacy of faith, love, laughter, generosity, hard work, service, and perseverance will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew him. A life well lived. A legacy well earned. A man deeply loved. “Well done, good and faithful servant.” Visitation will be held at Allen Funeral Home (4155 S. Old State Road 37, Bloomington, IN 47401) on Friday, June 19, 2026, from 10-12pm with the funeral service starting at 12pm. Burial will follow at Clover Hill Cemetery in Harrodsburg. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dan’s healthcare providers, Dr. Rebecca Cohen ad Dr. John Strobel; Southern Care Hospice; the healthcare providers who have cared for Dan over the years; and his church family who prayed for him.
