Diane Gerard

Diane Kain Grossman Gerard, 86, of Bloomington, passed away Sunday at Garden Villa. Born 1926 in Warsaw, Indiana to Paul M. Kain and Ruth Thayer Kain. Graduated in 1944 from Warsaw High School where she was Drum Majorette for the Warsaw High School Marching Band. Attended Methodist Hospital School of Nursing and received her nursing certification in 1969 from Ivy Tech Community College in Bloomington, Indiana. Worked as a nurse at the Bloomington Hospital in Bloomington, Indiana and at the Kosciusko Community Hospital in Warsaw, Indiana. Married Rin F. Grossman in 1954 and raised five (5) children, Cindy, Chris, David, Stephanie and Jennifer. Married Jerry Gerard in 1975 and resided in Warsaw, Indiana until Jerry's death in 2007. Was a member of Tri Kappa, First Presbyterian Church, Elks Auxiliary, American Legion Auxiliary, Order of the Eastern Star, Methodist Hospital Sextet of Singers, and President of the church choir. Enjoyed reading, jazz music, cross-stitching, gardening, birds, sports, puzzles, boating and life on Winona Lake in Warsaw, Indiana. Survived by daughters Cindy Hobbs (Steve) and Jennifer True (Jay), sons Christian Grossman (Elizabeth) and David Grossman, grandchildren Amy Haberly, Tim Witmer, Lauren Dorsey, Amber Lee, Madison True and Taylor True, great-grandchildren Nick Haberly, Elizabeth Haberly, Jacob Haberly, Crowe Brennon and James Anthony Dorsey. Preceded in death by two infant sons, father Paul Kain, mother Ruth Kain, brother David Kain, ex-husband Rin F. Grossman, husband Jerry Gerard and daughter Stephanie Lee. **Diane was blessed to have the faithful loving care of elder care companion Susan Stillerman, who was like a daughter to her. She was so grateful for all loving care she received from the staff of Bell Trace Assisted Living, Bell Trace Rehabilitation Center, IU Health Hospice, Hospice House, and the kind and loving senior health care staff of Garden Villa. A private memorial service will be held.
