Donna Lewis

Donna Jean (Matson) Lewis, 80, of Bloomington, Ind., passed away peacefully Thursday at the IU Health Bloomington Hospital, just one week after her husband of 51 years, Phil Lewis, passed away. Donna was born Nov. 26, 1932, in Ellettsville, Ind., the daughter of Harry and Alta (Cavaness) Matson. Donna graduated from Ellettsville High School. She worked in the radiology department at Bloomington Hospital and Bedford Medical Center for several years, during which time she met her husband, Phil. She spent many years working for the Bloomington Hospital Foundation. Additionally, many will remember Donna from her years of work as the school health aide for the Monroe County Community School Corp., including Binford, Rogers and Childs Elementary Schools. Earlier in her career, Donna was the medical office manager for Doctors Booze and Emery and was a transcriptionist. Donna was an active member of the First Christian Church, Bloomington, and a member of Daughters of the American Revolution. She loved spending time with her family and had special times with her grandchildren. She made great memories traveling the world, enjoyed gardening and studying royal monarchies. Representing five generations, Donna is survived by her four daughters, Karen Shiflet (Bill), Shelly Wright, Gina Myers (Bruce) and Amy Robinson (Ryan), all of Bloomington; 11 grandchildren, Beth Ross, Cheryl Daniels, Jennifer Shiflet, Brad Hawkins, Brian Hawkins, Ben Wright, Brianna Myers, Brett Philip Myers, Brady Myers, Maely Jean Robinson and Graedan Lewis Robinson; eight great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson. Donna is also survived by the children of her late sister Betty, including four nieces and one nephew. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Philip Dean Lewis, daughter Chris Linko and sister Betty (Matson) Hynds. Family will receive friends from 4-8 p.m. Monday, Feb. 4, 2013, at Allen Funeral Home, 4155 S. Old State Road 37, Bloomington. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2013, at the First Christian Church, 205 E. Kirkwood Ave., Bloomington. The Rev. Helen Hempfling will be officiating. Burial will follow at Clear Creek Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials for Donna may be made to the First Christian Church.
