Elia L. Meeks-Johnson

Elia L. Meeks-Johnson, 42, of Portland, Oregon, passed away on May 23, 2025. He was a devoted husband and a beloved son, brother, uncle, nephew, and friend. Elia was born in Indianapolis, Indiana, on December 17, 1982, son of James and Sally Meeks-Johnson. He met Diana Rooks in Houston, Texas, and they were married on February 13, 2006. He resided in Portland since 2011, first earning a degree in Accounting and working as a bookkeeper, then serving as a mail carrier for the Lake Oswego area. Elia carried his childhood love of music and literature into adulthood, becoming a compassionate, smart, cultured, and competent man. He could frequently be found reading science fiction or classic literature, and loved hunting through used bookstores to add to his vast collection of books. He wrote both short stories and songs, played the guitar, and enjoyed movies ranging from foreign films to horror flicks. Elia was an ardent Indiana sports fan, particularly following the Pacers and Colts. He looked forward to attending Pacers games whenever they played in Portland, enjoying the outcomes significantly more when they won. Elia taught himself French and, in 2018, excitedly fulfilled his long-time dream of traveling to Paris with his wife. He enjoyed his work as a mail carrier, listening to audiobooks while driving and feeling like Santa Claus, bringing Christmas cards to his neighbors. He loved hiking, camping, and exploring the outdoors. He had a fantastic sense of humor which he used to bring laughter into the lives of his family and friends. He will be deeply missed. Survivors include his wife, Diana Rooks; father, James Meeks-Johnson of Bloomington, IN; two brothers, Jaysin Meeks-Johnson (Rue) of Adams, MA, and T.J. Meeks-Johnson of Marshalltown, IA; three sisters, Rachel Meeks-Johnson of Bloomington, IN, Heather Meeks-Johnson of Bloomington, IN, and Amanda Meeks-Johnson of Marion, IN; and nephews Mason Meeks-Johnson and Caleb Meeks-Johnson of Terre Haute, IN. He was preceded in death by his mother Sally Meeks-Johnson and brother Micah Meeks-Johnson. A memorial reception will be held at Allen Funeral Home in Bloomington, Indiana, on Saturday, September 13, from 2:00-4:00. Family and personal friends are welcome.
