Elizabeth Carole Cory

Elizabeth (Bette) Carole Reid Cory, 86, passed peacefully surrounded by family at Hearthstone Health Campus on April 21, in Bloomington, IN. She was born on June 27, 1938, to George Carroll Reid and Warrena Foree Reid at her grandparents’ farmhouse near Sulphur (Henry Cy) Kentucky. Bette graduated from Shawnee High School in Louisville, KY in 1956 and then attended the University of Kentucky and the University of Louisville. She married Walter A. Cory Jr. on June 25th, 1960 in Louisville, KY. Bette had four children and went on to work for Indiana University’s Office of International Services from 1986-2007. She is survived by her siblings Roger Reid, Sheila (Bob) Saunders, and Deborah Callahan as well as her three sons, Steven, Brian, and Adam (Tammy) Cory, ex-husband, Walter Cory, and her grandchildren Kerry (Kyle) Nelson, Conor (Mollie) Raftery, Caitlin Raftery, Emma Cory, Harrison Cory, Amanda (William) Perez, Makinna Cory, and Reid Cory and great-grandchild, Ronan Raftery. She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Marjorie, and daughter Tawny (Scott) Raftery. Bette loved using her artistic skills to paint beautiful landscapes and glaze pottery. She was a member of Arlington United Methodist Church and practiced living her faith every day. She was an avid IU fan and enjoyed cheering on the Hoosiers. Bette will be remembered as a kind and gentle woman who raised her children with dignity, always sacrificing for them. She will be dearly missed by everyone who knew her. The family would like to thank Jill’s House, Hearthstone Health Campus, and Heart to Heart Hospice for taking such good care of Bette in her final years. Visitation will be held on Saturday, May 3, 2025, from 11:00am to 1:00pm at Arlington United Methodist Church, 1820 W. Arlington Road, Bloomington, IN 47404 with funeral services to immediately follow. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Arlington United Methodist Church or the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America (https://alzfdn.org/).
