Eugene Robert Thomas

Eugene Robert Thomas, 61, of Bloomington passed away on Tuesday, November 7, 2023, at the IU Health Hospice House. He was born on July 28, 1962, in Reedley, California, the son of Marlin Eugene and Janice (Warkentin) Thomas. Eugene was a 1980 graduate of Corn Bible Academy in Corn, Oklahoma. He also studied at Tabor College, Kansas State University, and Indiana University. He received his Doctor of Music in Vocal Performance at Indiana University Jacobs School of Music. He also received a degree in Nursing at Indiana University. Eugene worked several years in Bloomington, Indiana in nursing for Fresenius Heath Care. He was an amazing husband, father, grandfather, son, brother and friend. Eugene was a very faithful man who loved the Lord and studied the Bible extensively. He was a knowledgeable man and never stopped learning new things. He saw beauty in every season. He loved nature, watching things grow, and relaxing outdoors. He enjoyed planning vacations, travelling with his family, and spending time in the mountains. He could often be found watching sports ~ (sometimes quite loudly) especially football and baseball, and was a fan of the Chicago Cubs exclusively. "Gramps" enthusiastically and tirelessly supported his grandsons in their own baseball endeavors. Eugene loved cooking for his family and enjoyed trying new recipes, including international cuisines. Eugene relentlessly taught, by example, the well-known adage that if something is worth doing, it is worth doing well...and completely. Above all, he loved his family and loved spending time with them. He is and will be truly missed. Eugene is survived by his wife, Tami Thomas of Bloomington: his daughters, Maddie (Caleb) Cooper of Bloomington; Jordan Clendening of Bloomington; two grandchildren, Peyton Brown and Malachi Clendening; his mother, Janice Thomas of Bloomington; his sister, Cristy Thomas-Cornelius of Bloomington; and a host of other family, and friends. Eugene was preceded in death by his father, Marlin Thomas. The family has requested that memorial contributions may be sent to Pancreatic Cancer Research (PanCAN PurpleStride, Pancreatic Cancer Action Network), or the IU Health Bloomington Hospice House, if desired. No services are scheduled at this time as per Eugene's preference. Cremation rites have been accorded. Allen Funeral Home and Crematory have been entrusted with arrangements.
