Gregory Shane Spires

Gregory Shane Spires,72, of Bloomington, Indiana passed away on Saturday, October 19, 2019 in his home. Gregory was born on July 18, 1947 in Bedford, IN to the late Gene and Helen (Barnett) Spires. He attended Smithville High School and graduated in 1965 and served in the Indiana National Guard for many years. Gregory worked as an equipment operator for the local 841 union and for Snedigars Construction as a heavy equipment operator. He was active in his community and was a member of the Eagles1085 and the Moose Lodge here in Bloomington. He enjoyed watching Nascar and went to many races in his day! He loved watching football almost as much as he loved going to his grandkids sporting events and spending time with his friends and family. Gregory was a beloved husband, father, grandpa, great-grandpa, and friend. He will be deeply missed. Gregory is survived by his children, Michelle Morse (Scott), Chris Spires (Dee), Misty Abel (Ben), and Tony Evans (Carrie); brothers, Michael Spires, Steve Spires (Cora), Tracy Spires (Mary); grandkids, Dustin Mason (Natalie), Jarred Mason (Courtney), Landon Mason (Abby), Cole (Hannah) and Carson Morse, Brad Arthur (Ashly), Chris Arthur (Christie), Darian Brummett (Chris), Tiara, Seth, and Jayden Evans, Kirstie and Jack Glover, Carly King (Bryce), Kayla Merchant (Tony), Baylee and Blaise Sylvester; great-grandkids. Harper, Clara, Jaylen, Kaden, Jazz, Peyton, Braylen, Brook, Kayden, Kyler, Forrest, Peyton, Levicy, Maddison, and Lydia; several nieces and nephews. Gregory is preceded in death by his wife, Sue Spires; his parents; and nephew, Dason Spires. A visitation will be held from 5:00 P.M. - 8:00 P.M. on Thursday, October 24 at Allen Funeral Home & Crematory. The Eagles 1085 Aerie will be presenting the Eagles ritual for their fraternal brother at 7:00 P.M. on Thursday, October 24 to conclude visitation. A funeral service will be held on Friday, October 25 @ 11:00 A.M. at Allen Funeral Home & Crematory. Burial will follow at Valhalla Memory Gardens.
