Harold Johnson

Harold Johnson, a son, brother, father, grandfather, and loved member of the Bloomington family. Harold passed away April 15th, 2023, at Indiana University Memorial hospital at the age of 73. He was born in Hyden Kentucky to Theo Johnson and Jane Couch on March 15th, 1950. His mother and father had 10 children: Ernest, Glenn, Bill, John Herman, and Raymond Johnson and 2 daughters Sue Gardner and Ada Dolans as well as 2 that passed many years ago. In his death he was surrounded by his loved ones; his daughter Marlo Johnson, son Jeremiah Johnson, former spouse Pamela Hill and her husband Paul Hill as well as his grandkids Skyla Fiscus, Lillyanna Fiscus, and Jamason Johnson along with several other friends and family. Harold served in the United States Army National Guard, after serving he created a life for himself by working a factory job at RCA after about 28 years with them, he chose a career at Indiana University as a night shift custodian for over 20 years and where he later happily retired. Harold or as known to me as papaw and by some other Big H, was a man of few words but the words he did speak were nothing but unforgettable. My sister Lilly for one said that she would never forget him telling her “Lilly don’t get mad over little things it will make you have a heart attack” he was always thinking of everyone all the time. He was a loving, caring, and funny man with many hobbies he enjoyed doing like fishing, cooking (as my cousin Jamason would say “he made the best Mac and Cheese you could ever eat”), watching TV series like Beverly Hills Hillbillies, The Price is Right, and Family Feud, He also enjoyed watching sports specifically any IU games (he enjoyed the basketball games more than most), and he spent a lot of time thrift shopping. Which is where some of my fondest memories and funny stories with him take place. (On my days off I would go to goodwill. One day I decided to go look around and without knowing I walk in the doors and head back towards the collectibles and randoms little did I know there he stood. After caching up and talking a minute I headed out to the other goodwill on the other side of town well needless to say after about an hour looking, I go to leave and standing by the carts, he stood, I walked up to him and just laugh and say, “what are the chances I would see you again”. This has also happened on more than one occasion and memories I will never forget. Many of us have similar and fond memories with him that we could tell for days. On the behalf of my family, I can say for certain that he will be dearly missed and never forgotten. As I was once told and for which I truly believe from “Earth to earth, ashes to ashes, dust to dust” from where we start to an eternal life. Until we meet again. Memorial Services will be held Saturday April 22, 2023 at 3:00PM at Allen Funeral Home and Crematory 4155 South Old State Road 37. Visitation will also be held Saturday April 22, 2023 form 1:00PM to the time of the service at 3:00PM.
