Helen Beryl Koontz

On Sunday night, August 25, 2019, at 11:30 p.m., Helen Beryl Koontz, a wonderful lady, passed from this life to her heavenly reward. She was 78 years of age. She was a brave woman who was ready for her years of battling multiple illnesses to be over. Helen was born in Harrodsburg, Indiana on September 29, 1940. Her parents were Opal and Marian Flinn, both deceased. She was born into a family of 12 children, Norma Grogen, Bonnie Parker, Kenny Flinn (Deceased), Paul Flinn (Deceased), Anna Long, Ralph Flinn (Deceased) Bobby Flinn (Deceased), Billy Flinn, and Phyllis White. Two siblings died in childhood, Barbara Jean Flinn and Linda Lou Flinn. Helen married Boyd Delano Koontz (Wheelbar), another native of Harrodsburg, on April 22, 1957. Helen and Boyd were married for 51 years. Boyd preceded her in death on November 16, 2008. Together they raised 5 children in Bloomington, Indiana: Tab Koontz of Spencer, Craig Koontz of Bloomington, Alan Koontz of Altus, Oklahoma, Penny Terrell of Bloomington, and David Koontz of Bloomington. Unfortunately, Penny passed away on May 23, 2010 from some of the same illnesses that challenged her mother, Lupus and kidney failure. Helen was also a brave fighter and survivor of breast cancer. Helen has seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Tab and his wife, Susan, have one daughter, April Koontz, of Bloomington. Alan has a son in Walterboro, South Carolina, Ryan Koontz, and Alan and his wife, Jeanette, have four children in Oklahoma: John Michael, Chloe, Coby, and Legacy. Penny and her husband, Ed Terrell, have two children: Caleb Terrell of Bloomington, and Marrisa Mauritz of Temple, Texas. Her 4 great-grandchildren include: Hunter, Joshua, and Autumn, born to grandson Ryan and his wife Sushannah, and Melrose Estella Cove Mauritz born to granddaughter Marissa and her husband Jesse Mauritz. Helen was a woman of great Christian faith. She attended church regularly at the Highland Village Assembly of God. She was often seen reading her bible in the living room of her home. She moved from her home in Bloomington to a senior living community, Edgewood Village Apartments, in the fall of 2018. She made the decision to enjoy a more relaxed apartment lifestyle without the responsibilities of a house and property. To Helen, we all say “WELL DONE” our daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, friend, and neighbor. Visitation for Helen Koontz is scheduled for Thursday evening, August 29, 2019 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Allen Funeral Home, 4155 South Old 37, Bloomington, Indiana. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 30, 2019 at the church Helen was raised in as a child, the Harrodsburg Assembly of God, Harrodsburg, Indiana. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the church. Burial will be at the Clover Hill Cemetery, Harrodsburg, Indiana.
