Helena Zuk (Dyczkowska)

Helena Zuk (Dyczkowska) of Bloomington passed away at home on June 25, 2021. Helena was born on May 1, 1929 in Koroszczyn, eastern Poland, and was the daughter of Jozefa (Daniluk) and Mikolaj Dyczkowski. She was a teenage girl when World War II broke out in Poland, and she spent the next five years in German-occupied country trying to survive those difficult times with her family. After the war, with Poland in ruins, she helped her parents to rebuild their life. At the age of 22, she married Feliks Zuk, and they had two children together. With her husband she ran a large farm in eastern Poland. After her retirement, she and her husband immigrated to the US in January 2002 to join their children Maria and Leszek in Bloomington. She adjusted well to her new life and these nineteen years in Bloomington gave her opportunity to spend precious time with her children and their families. Over those years in the US, she has read thousands of pages of literature, all aloud with her son-in-law John Brian. Not having had opportunity to study during the war and post-war times, she valued education and always supported education of her children and grandchildren. She was hardworking, witty, and much loved by family and friends. She enjoyed singing and was singing until her last days. Helena was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, her two sisters, and her husband Feliks. She is survived by her son Leszek Zuk and his wife Helena Zuk of Bloomington, daughter Maria Mastalerz and her husband John Brian O’Donnell of Bloomington and grandchildren Kasia Mastalerz (husband Charlie Davis) of Denver, Colorado and Michal Zuk (wife Renata Zuk) of Fishers, Indiana and two great-grandchildren, Olivia and Adrian. We all will miss her very much; we will miss her singing, her reading, and we are so thankful for all the years together. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, June 30, 2021 at 11:00am at Allen Funeral Home 4155 South Old State Road 37. Burial will follow at Valhalla Memory Gardens. Visitation will be held Wednesday at the funeral home form 10:00am until the time of the service at 11:00am.
