Hilda Alves Flebotte

Hilda Flebotte was born in Ludlow, Massachusetts and raised by her loving parents, Domingos and Amelia Alves who immigrated to the United States from Portugal in the early 1900’s. She enjoyed the support, care, and protection from her parents and her four older brothers: Alec, Manny, “Smiles”, and David. Upon graduation from Ludlow High School, Ludlow Massachusetts, Hilda chose a career in nursing and completed her training as a Registered Nurse at the Springfield Hospital, now known as the Bay State Medical Center. This was a true vocation for her and in the course of her long career, she was valued as a nurse in many different areas of service and instilled an attitude of caring for others in her children. Hilda married (Wilfred) Roy Flebotte on December 30th, 1950 and they had three children: Daniel Roy Flebotte, Thomas Roy Flebotte, and Linda (Flebotte) Hitchings. There were many family gatherings both in Massachusetts and North Carolina and holidays at the beach. Hilda and Roy loved to travel in their RV across the US and Canada as well as in Europe and Mexico. Roy and Hilda shared a special love, one of devotion and always wanting to do what was best for the other. Roy preceded Hilda in death on March 20, 2018. Hilda is survived by her beloved children, son Daniel and Jill of Creedmoor, NC; son Thomas Flebotte and Amicus of Chapel Hill, NC; daughter Linda Hitchings and Matthew of Bloomington, IN; grandson Patrick Hitchings and Alli of Bloomington, IN; granddaughter Eleanor Dwiel and Lucas of Plainfield, NH; great granddaughter Mira Alexander; great grandson Hawken Hitchings; and awaits from Heaven for the birth of great grandchild Dwiel expected in mid-August. Services will be held at 11:00, Monday, August 12th, at St. Charles Borromeo Church, Bloomington, IN. There is no formal visitation, but friends and family are welcome to arrive beforehand. Memorial contributions can be made to Little Sisters of the Poor, St. Vincent de Paul Society, St. Augustine’s Home for the Aged at 2345 West 86th St., Indianapolis, IN 46260, or to the charity of one’s choice. Hilda was beloved by her family, her many nieces and nephews and to all whom she met. She felt family and her friendships keenly, grateful for those who shared her life and her confidence. Her presence was a support for many. Hilda was the last of her generation and a touchstone for her children, nieces, and nephews to those earlier times of family. Her passing is the severing of this last tie. Though happy she is reunited with her beloved husband and soul mate, her parents and brothers, her presence, strength, and wholehearted love will be greatly missed.
