James A. "Jim" Raines

James A. “Jim” Raines, 79, of Bloomington passed away on Thursday, November 17, 2022 at the Hearthstone Health Campus. He was born on March 22, 1943 in Indianapolis, Indiana, the son of George Allen and Edna Pauline (Combs) Raines. Jim was a 1961 graduate of University High School, and attended Indiana State University. He married the love of his life Kay Frost on October 21, 1966 in Switz City, Indiana, they were happily married for fifty-six years. Jim proudly served in the Indiana National Guard. He worked for Public Service as a lineman from 1966 to 1971 in Bloomington, and in 1971 he went to work for the Bloomington Fire Department and served for twenty-eight years before retiring in 1999. Jim was a member of Stanford Lodge #173 and the Crosley Club. He enjoyed all kinds of racing, and he loved cars and working on cars. He loved going to Jiffy Treet, and his cat of 17 years, Tony. Jim was a wonderful husband and great friend. He had three things he wanted to do in his life: he wanted to work in the pits at an Indy 500, build a street rod and build his own home. He accomplished all of them. Jim will be greatly missed. Jim is survived by his loving wife, Kay Raines of Bloomington; nieces, Michelle (Jim) Ferguson; Paula (Eric) Blodgett; Cindy (Dave) Catterlin; Pam (Dennis) Pigg; Kathie (Jeff) Gentry; Vickie Miller; Lisa (Kenny) Wilson; Bobbie (Andrew) Stipp and Julie Overman; nephews, Jeff (Dana) Young and Bill Overman; his sister-in-law, Betty Miller; and brother-in-law, Mike Overman; and many great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, George Raines and Edna McVicker; his sister, Susie Young and brother-in-law Steve Young; nephew, Steve Miller and step-father, Frank McVicker. Visitation will be held from 3:00pm to 7:00pm Tuesday, November 22, 2022 at the Allen Funeral Home 4155 S. Old St Rd 37 Bloomington. Memorial contributions may be made to the Monroe County Humane Association or the Pantry 279 in Ellettsville. Allen Funeral Home and Crematory have been entrusted with arrangements.
