Joan Mitchner

Joan Mitchner 84, of Bloomington passed away on Wednesday, April 5, 2023 at her home with her family by her side. She was born on May 21, 1938 in Monroe County, Indiana the daughter of Carl and Bertha (Dupree) Rice. She was a life-long resident of Monroe County. Joan married the love of her life, Raymond Mitchner on April 1, 1956 in Bloomington, Indiana they were happily married sixty-five years. She was a lifetime member of the Apostolic Bible Church (formerly Henderson Street Pentecostal Church) in Bloomington where he was a very faithful and active worker in her church. Joan was a self-employed housekeeper and homemaker. She was a loving and devoted wife mother and grandmother. Her family was everything to her. She lost the love of her life, Raymond on November 11, 2021. They were blessed to celebrate their sixty-fifth wedding anniversary in April of that year. They were a true team. Family, church and her group of church friends that have been together since childhood were her world. She enjoyed their annual tradition of gathering together with her life-long friends. The outpouring of love, cards, visits, flowers and food are a direct result of the kind of woman Joan was. She always had a big smile and was very upbeat and positive. She will be greatly missed. Joan is survived by her two sons, Steven Eugene (Martha) Mitchner; Rickie Lee (Jennifer) Mitchner all of Bloomington; grandchildren, Brandon (Michele) Mitchner; Jelayne (Cory) Taylor and Andrew Mitchner; her sister Betty Siscoe of Bloomington; her niece and nephew, Mark & Gary Siscoe; Vickie Sciscoe Smith. She was preceded in death by her parents, Carl & Bertha Rice; her husband Raymond Mitchner; grandson, Jacob Seth Mitchner. Memorial Contributions may be made to the Apostolic Bible Church. A funeral service will be held at 12:00pm Friday April 7, 2023 at the Apostolic Bible Church in Bloomington. With Rev. Duane Coffman officiating. Burial will follow at Valhalla Memory Gardens. Visitation will be held from 10:00pm to service time Friday at the church. Allen Funeral Home and Crematory have been entrusted with arrangements.
