John "JD" Albertson

John “JD” Albertson, 57, of Bloomington passed away suddenly on Saturday, November 18th, 2023 at his home. He was born on December 30th, 1965 in Salem, Indiana, the son of Johnny Dewayne Albertson Sr. and Cynthia Jean (Frye) Lee. John was a 1984 graduate of Salem High School in Salem, Indiana and rumor has it, you can still see his bronze statue to this day. He was also a 1988 graduate of Indiana University where he received his Bachelor’s Degree in Business. He married the love of his life, Angela Michelle Bettag, on May 14th, 1988 in Indianapolis, Indiana. They were happily married for 35 years. They were blessed with three children – Abby, Blake and Jenna. His family was the light of his life. He was always present and always constant. John was the owner and operator of the John Albertson Allstate Agency for 34 years before partnering with his son, creating the Albertson Family Agency. Aside from his time with Allstate, John was formerly a co-founder of Baldy’s Pizzeria and most recently a co-owner of The Porthole Inn. John spent a lot of time coaching – something he was very passionate about. He began in his twenties, helping coach football at Edgewood High School. As his children grew older and more involved in activities, he helped coach youth football, softball and fishing. His involvement in the high school fishing club, as well as starting multiple clubs around the state, was one of his many joys. He was an avid outdoorsman. His fall season was spent hunting whitetail deer at his favorite hunting cabin. When he wasn’t in the woods, he could be found fishing a variety of tournaments and weeknight jackpots. He enjoyed golfing, bowling, cornhole, traveling and finding any game to play that he could always “win”. John is survived by his wife, Angie Albertson of Bloomington; three children, Abby (Landon) Mason of Bloomington; Blake Albertson of Bloomington; Jenna Albertson of Bloomington; his brother, Hack (Jill) Albertson of Campbellsburg; his mother-in-law, Ann Bettag of Indianapolis; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents Johnny Albertson Sr. and Cynthia Lee; his sister, Teresa Eaves; his father-in-law, Bill Bettag. He was a family man, a businessman, an outdoorsman, a social man, but above all, a faithful man. He is in his final resting place with the Lord. A celebration of life will be held at a later date in 2024. Cremation Rights have been accorded. Allen Funeral Home and Crematory have been entrusted with arrangements.
