John D. Hodges

John D. Hodges, 64, of Bloomington died Sunday morning July 28, 2013 at I.U. Health-Bloomington following a lengthy illness. He was born in Bedford, IN on April 2, 1949 the son of Harold and Audie (Hall) Hodges and was a 1967 graduate of Bedford High School. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War and attended Purdue University and Indiana University. John retired as Senior Vice President of Director of Contracts for Raydar Contract Co. operating out of the Crane Naval Weapons Supply Depot. He previously worked at Indiana University and with Big Red Liquors in information technology. John held a great interest in his home, second only to his family. He loved to do landscaping and work in his yard. He was able to plant flowering bushes where he could see them even during his illness. He was a member of the Amvets Post #2000, the Burton Woolery Post #18 of the American Legion and the Lauren B. Strain Post #604 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, all in Bloomington. He is survived by his wife, Regina (Bragg) Thompson Hodges of Bloomington, one daughters and Son-in-Law, Crystal D. and Tony Dell of Martinsville, three grandchildren; Malena Dell, Emily Thompson and Derek Thompson, his parents of Ocala, Fl., two sisters and brother-in-Law, Gloria and Pete Phillips of Indianapolis and Patricia "Pat" Hodges of MacIntosh, FL, two brothers and Sisters-in-Law, Ron and Marsha Hodges of Jupiter, FL and Larry and Misty Hodges of Oregon. He is also survived by his beloved canine family, Pepper and Milo. He was preceded in death by one son, Brian Thompson on Sept. 2, 2012. Funeral services will be held at Allen Funeral Home in Bloomington on Wednesday, July 31, 2013 at 5:00 p.m. with Pastor Robert Yount officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home from 2:00-5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Amvets Post #2000, American Legion Post #18 or VFW Post #604 in care of Allen Funeral Home, 4155 S. Old St. Rd 37, Bloomington, IN 47401.
