Joseph "Dude" Henry Whaley

Joseph Henry Whaley, affectionally known as “Dude”, 85, passed away on Friday, August 21, 2026, at IU Health Hospice House, Bloomington, Indiana. He was born in Greene County, Indiana, on September 19, 1940, son of William and Waneta (Faulk) Whaley. Dude’s primary career was a truck driver. He was especially proud of receiving Roadway’s One Million Accident-Free Miles Award and was well. On his way to earning the Two Million Accident-Free Miles Award when Roadway closed. He later finished his career at Reese Trucking delivering mail, followed by O’Reilly Auto Part delivering vehicle parts. He proudly served his country in the United States Army, stationed in Germany and remained very proud of his service as a United States Veteran throughout his life. Dude enjoyed spending time on his farm in Eastern Greene County and making memories with family and friends. In his later years, Dude particularly enjoyed spending time at Dinky’s Auction House, where he found plenty to keep him entertained. Dude will be remembered for his love of family, his pride in his country, his work ethic, and the many memories he created with those who knew and loved him. He is survived by his siblings, Helen Sims, Jim Whaley, Martha Mathews, Donnie Whaley, Darlene Keller, and Ramona Peoples; along with many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews who will cherish his memory. Preceding him in death is his beloved wife, Janet (Martin) Whaley and his siblings, Harold “Bob” Whaley, Darold Whaley, Paul Whaley, Janet Sue Watkins, Leroy Whaley, Ola Underwood, Nancy Sheets, and Grover Walters. Visitation will be held Wednesday, August 26, 2026, from 10am-1pm at Allen Funeral Home, 1455 S. Old State Road 37 in Bloomington. Funeral Services will follow at 1pm, officiated by Pastor Troy Borst. Burial will follow at Valhalla Memory Gardens. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to IU Health Hospice House, 2810 S. Deborah Drive, Bloomington, IN 47403, in Dude’s memory. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff at Stonecroft Health Campus, IU Bloomington Hospital, and IU Health Hospice House – Bloomington, for their exceptional level of care.
