Joshua Steven Hughes

Joshua Steven Hughes, 35, passed away on May 18, 2025. He was born November 1, 1989 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Reno, NV to Julie Chapman and Michael Hughes. He spent most of his childhood in the Reno area, with the exception of a year in Denver, CO. He attended Virginia City High School and went on to study Chemistry at the University of Nevada, Reno. While in college, he met the love of his life, Cindy (Sherman). They married in August 2011, and shortly after relocated to Bloomington, IN. Together they welcomed four beautiful children, who were Joshua’s pride and joy. Though he was trained and employed most of his career as a butcher, he most cherished the years he was able to spend as a stay-at-home dad. Recently, he and Cindy took on a new adventure as business owners of the Style Encore in Greenwood, IN. While it has been a challenge with some growing pains, Joshua was dedicated and determined to succeed. There are many plans and dreams that Cindy and Josh made together, which he left us too soon to realize. But there are countless treasured memories that he built with his family, including the numerous road trips and vacations they took to visit family and discover new places. The highlights being the summers they all shared together in northern Nevada at the land they owned both in town and in the mountains near Pyramid Lake. Joshua had many passions, lived life on his own terms, and always made the most of every day. He had a love for bowling, which started during his and Cindy’s early dating years and was later rekindled as a family favorite. He loved gardening and cared about living as sustainably as possible so that the world would be a healthy place for his children. He was a comedian, with a dry, often crude sense of humor, proud of every laugh he garnered. He loved learning about history – mostly through some of his favorite podcasts, which he was frequently listening to – and was passionate about social justice. He was an avid gamer; he was always up for a good board game or video game, which connected him to family and friends near and far. He loved being outdoors whether at Tahoe, hosting barbeques, flying kites, going on walks, or mowing the lawn. He loved to cook for people, especially Prime Rib dinners, and hosting gatherings together with Cindy. Joshua loved sharing and instilling his passions with others, especially his family. Joshua was a devoted son, loving brother, and generous friend. But most of all he was an amazing husband, best friend, and an even better daddy. He was intentional about building a unique bond with each of his children. A child at heart, he was always willing to play with them – be it superheroes, on the playground, battle, hide-and-seek, or video games. Joshua was convinced that he had the “Hughes Luck”, but it is really all who were fortunate to have him in their life that are the lucky ones. He is survived by his wife of 13 years, Cindy; his children, Grace, Nora, Andrew, and Chance; his parents, Mike and Julie; siblings, Jaycob and Piper; Grandmother Zola; and beloved Uncle Jake; as well as many extended family, in-laws, and friends that loved him. He is preceded by his Uncle Mikey, Grandma Toni, Grandma Ruehling, and Aunt Charlene. Joshua requested that he be remembered with a “FUN”eral rather than with sadness. In his honor, the family will be hosting a Celebration of Life at Classic Lanes Bowling Alley in Bloomington, IN on Sunday, June 1st from 7:00 pm to 8:30 pm.
