Josie Johns Ziepolt

Josie Johns Ziepolt, aged 74, of Bloomington, IN, passed away April 20, 2024, surrounded by family. Her death was due to complications of Alzheimer’s disease. She was born to Charles Emile "Neal" and Mary Jo Hartmann Johns in Evansville, IN, on February 16, 1950. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother Dave Johns, sister-in-law Jean Johns, brother Dan Johns, her nephew Billy Johns, her stepdaughter Stephanie Ellen Sadler Ziepolt, and her step nephew Michael Alexander. She is survived by her husband of 51 years Robert Adrian Ziepolt, her sons Charles Adrian "Chuck" Ziepolt and Patrick Austin Ziepolt, grandson Jackson Robert Wesley Ziepolt, brother Patrick Johns (Paulette), brother-in-law James Ziepolt (Ann), sister-in-law Elsie Ziepolt, and ten nieces and nephews (whom she often babysat). Josie had many friends from her grade school and high school days in Evansville (North Huskies Class of 1968) who called themselves the Daylily Convention. They had weekend gatherings every year or two somewhere in the Midwest, which Josie enjoyed tremendously. This group included Gail Merrill, Roxie Kindelsperger, Becky Hall, Debby English, Nyra Mueller, Pat Theobald, and Sarah Marshall. Josie loved gardening and took pride in the flowers that she planted and cared for over the years. Perhaps her greatest passion was sailing and racing at the Bloomington Yacht Club on Lake Lemon. She was experienced, competitive, fun-loving, and always ready to go out on the water. She so enjoyed her weekends at the lake and monthly potlucks with her skipper, Adrian, and her many friends at the club. Josie also studied massage therapy and the Course in Miracles. She offered friends a caring ear and good humor. To many friends, she exemplified kindness, generosity, and compassion. She was a creative seamstress and an extraordinary bargain hunter. She delighted in finding and wearing hats. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother, who also cared for many canine companions—and she will be missed. The family would like to thank the staff at Brickyard Healthcare and at IU Health Hospice for their kindness and excellent care. There will be a memorial service at BYC on Lake Lemon (8911 E Sail Away Ln, Unionville, IN 47468) at 11:00 a.m. on June 1, 2024.
