Joyce Ann Rayle

Joyce Ann (Shields) Rayle, 88, daughter of Marshall Thomas Shields and Helen Pauline (Owens) Shields, went to be with the Lord on February 29, 2024. Joyce was born on September 22, 1935 in Monroe County, Indiana and quickly became “the leader” to her siblings and others who followed. She married Donald Keith Rayle on January 29, 1954 in Monroe County, Indiana. She became a loving mother of five, grandmother of nine, great grandmother of twenty, and great-great grandmother of four. Joyce graduated from Bloomington High School in 1953. She worked as an assembler at RCA in her early years. Joyce switched her career to retail at JC Penney, and then retired from Kohls at the age of 83. Her life was centered around serving the Lord and she was active in the children’s ministry. Through the years she helped at Bloomington Gospel Tabernacle, Highland Village Church, Apostolic Faith Assembly, Knightridge Pentecostal Church, and others. Her last few years were spent attending Bethel Apostolic Church and Landmark Church. Joyce is survived by her daughters Thomica Jo (Raymond) Breeden, Alicia Dawn (Dennis) Robertson, Cindi Michelle (Roger) May, and Stephanie Ann (Thomas) Rhodes. Joyce considered Timothy Shields as an honorary son. Her grandchildren are Matthew (Penni) Williamson, Nathan (Sarah) Williamson, Aleta (Robert) Boltinghouse, Derek Robertson, Michael (Francis) Deckard, Andrew Deckard, Madison Deckard, Stephen (Kylie) Rhodes, and Natalie (Jeremy) Berger. Surviving also are her sisters Paula Williams and Jennifer (Rick) Mitchner, her brother Mike (Marlys) Shields, and eight nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter Paula Rexanne Rayle, brother Tommy Shields, sister Thomica Jo Shields, son-in-law Douglas Keith Deckard, brother-in-law Joseph Williams, and niece Becky (Shields) Eads. Visitation will be at Shiloh Pentecostal Church, 77 W. Smithville Road, Bloomington, Indiana on March 5, 2024 from 11 AM to 2 PM with funeral following. Presiding ministers will be Pastor Tom Rhodes, Pastor Greg Ison and Rev. Michael Deckard. Her burial will be at Rose Hill Cemetery, Bloomington, Indiana. Allen Funeral Home and Crematory, 4155 South Old State Road 37 in Bloomington have been entrusted with arrangements.
