Judith Ann Goodwin

Judith Ann Goodwin, 72, of Bloomington Indiana passed away on June 17th 2024 after a brave battle with cancer. Judy was born on February 19, 1952 to Fred Clifford Oliver and wife Lura in Cleveland, Ohio. She grew up in Indianapolis Indiana and is survived by her five siblings, Susan (Jeff) Swift, Steve (Anne McGown) Oliver, Cathy (Larry) Wagner, Fred Oliver and Janet Oliver. In 1976, Judy met Stephen Goodwin after being set up on a blind date. The couple was wed December 10th 1977, and married for 46 and a half years. Their 40th wedding anniversary was spent in Alaska complete with zip lining, off roading and white water rafting. Judy and Stephen had twins, Christopher (Naomi) Goodwin and Elizabeth (Gabriele) Petro who gave them five grandchildren, Mackenzie, Abigail, Henry, Calvin and Miriam. The family all lovingly called her JudyDoll, a nickname given to her by her niece Kristen who had a doll with red hair when she was four. JudyDoll loved Lake Michigan, coloring, and everything fun, but most of all she loved her family and always called them “her very best things”. Judy was a brilliant advanced practice nurse (Clinical Nurse Specialist). She spent most of her career helping children and adults with their mental health needs. She was known to use props to help when meeting with patients, it wasn’t unusual to see Judy with a clown nose or reindeer antlers to lighten the mood. Judy was predeceased by her parents, her Grandmother Gracie Von Phul, and Mother and Father in law Von and Alice Goodwin. Often referred to as a “Tigger” from Winnie-the-Pooh, Judy’s fun positive outlook and mental toughness were unmatched. The impact she made on her family, friends and patients will last a lifetime. This is evidenced by her gift of body donation to the Indiana University Medical School, making a lasting impact on the clinicians of the future. Services will be held at St. Paul Catholic Center on June 22nd. Visitation from noon to 2pm and a Catholic Mass at 2pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Tunnel to Towers and St. Jude Children’s Hospital. Judy routinely donated to both organizations and felt strongly about their cause. After the mass, family and close friends are invited to Camp Goodwin. Specific instructions were given by Judy to not have a stuffy event in a church basement. Expect fun, bubbles, games, tootsie roll pops, food, and laughter, just as our JudyDoll would have wanted.
