Kathleen Rae Montgomery

Kathleen Rae Montgomery, age 62, of Greenwood, formerly of Bloomington, passed away at her residence Friday July 12, 2013. She was born in Bloomington to Raymond and Helen (Trent) Montgomery on August 15, 1950. Kathy received her B.S. from Milligan College in Tennessee, and her M.S. from Indiana University. She was licensed as both a Mental Health Counselor and School Counselor. Kathy received great joy in helping to make a positive impact in other peoples lives. From 1976 to 1978 she was a caseworker at Cookson HIlls Christian Missions in Kansas, Oklahoma. She then became a social worker from 1982 to 1988 with the Chapes Program in Bloomington. From 1992 to 1999 she was a counselor with Ivy Tech State College and then moved on to complete her professional career from 1999 to 2004 as a guidance counselor in the North Putnam High School in Roachdale, Indiana. Kathy was involved in many related experiences, some of which include a 2001 Career Counseling Internship with Ivy Tech State College, working for the Monroe County Library, and from 2004 until her death, she enjoyed being a volunteer with the Red Cross in Bloomington. Kathy held associations with the American Counselors Assoc., Indiana School Counselors Assoc., National Education Assoc.,the Indiana State Teachers Assoc., the American College of Counselors, Indiana Mental Health Counselors Assoc., and Who's Who of American Women. One of the achievements Kathy was most proud of was serving as the first female dispatcher for the Indiana State Police. Kathy is survived by her son Jason Paul Montgomery of California; daughter Lisa Dawn (Myers) Zurcher and her husband John of Rosedale, Indiana; daughter Stephanie Kathleen (Myers) Owens and her husband Anthony of Greenwood; grandchildren Noah, Libby, Isaiah and Levi Zurcher, and Aaliyah Owens. She is also survived by her sister Janis Lynn Montgomery Hardy and her husband Steve of Springville as well as several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister Cheryl Ann Montgomery Boulse.
