Kathleen Janice (Buell) Thompson

Kathleen Janice Thompson (née Buell), born June 5, 1939, in Cleveland, Ohio, to Alfred and Margaret Buell, was the second child and first daughter in her family. She graduated from Vermilion High School in 1958 and married the love of her life, George Thompson, on June 28, 1958. Together, they built a beautiful life centered on faith, family, and service. Kathleen was a devoted wife and mother to four children: George Thompson III (Beth Quimby), Amy O’Neal (Steve O’Neal), Elizabeth Thompson, and Meg Walter (Robert Walter). Her joy multiplied with her seven grandchildren—Sarah Sorsaburu (Sturgeon), Kaitlyn Katko (O’Neal), Maria Pearce (Thompson), Emily Alfonso (O’Neal), Rachel Benevidez (Sturgeon), Allyson Thompson, and Joseph Walter—and nine great-grandchildren: Bastian Sorsaburu, Oliver Katko, Eloise Katko, Kaelen Pearce, Clara Alfonso, Lucian Sorsaburu, Alice Benevidez, Sophia Alfonso, and Leo Benevidez. Her license plate proudly read “Gransgot7,” a testament to her love for her growing family. Kathleen’s life was marked by joy, kindness, and unwavering faith. She dedicated herself to raising her children and later supporting her grandchildren, always choosing family first. For 23 years, she was an active member of Solsberry Christian Church, where she served tirelessly—helping launch Operation Outreach to provide food and clothing for those in need, starting a choir, and leading Bible studies. After retiring to Florida with George, she continued her ministry by helping establish a church in the Tower Lakes community in Lake Wales. Kathleen lived by the principles of the Proverbs 31 woman—a wife of noble character. Her passions were many: music of all kinds, spinning and weaving, Bible study, and exploring nature. She loved birdwatching, often with binoculars and bird book in hand, and spent countless hours collecting treasures in the woods near her home. Kathleen and George shared a love of travel, visiting destinations around the world including Tahiti, St. Thomas, England, Scotland, Canada, and every state in the contiguous United States. Kathleen’s legacy is one of faith, love, and service. She touched countless lives with her generosity and grace, and her memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. Visitation will be Monday, December 29, 2025 from 12:00PM to 2:00 PM with a Memorial Service to follow at 2:00 p.m. at the Allen Funeral Home and Crematory 4155 South Old State Road 37. Graveside service will be held in Bluffton Ohio at the Thompson Cemetery on Tuesday, December 30, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. The family would be grateful for donations to be made to the Alzheimer’s Association in lieu of flowers.
