Lilian Marlene (McHardy) Laszlo

With deep sadness, we announce the death of Lilian Laszlo, a beautiful wife, mother, grandmother and friend who touched the lives of many. She passed unexpectedly after a brief illness on Saturday, the 25th of May 2019, at the age of 84. Born Lilian Marlene McHardy on September 1, 1934 in Tandil, Argentina to James McHardy and Ana Petovello. She immigrated to the U.S. with her husband and young daughters; living in New York City, Rochester NY and Norwalk CT prior to moving to Baltimore MD, where she lived for more than 30 years. In 2003, she moved to Bloomington to be closer to family. Lilian is survived by her husband of 61 years, Ernest; her children, Alejandra, Cristina (Kevin), Carl (Vanessa), and Eric (Stacey); grandchildren, Samantha, Gwendolyn, Bryna, Andrew, Angela, Sydney, Tessa, Michael, and her beloved dog Pelé. She was a consummate cook and hostess who enjoyed entertaining family and friends, travelling throughout the world experiencing different cultures and making friends wherever she went. An avid gardener, she beautified everything she touched. Lilian was known for her style and elegance, taking pride in presenting a polished image that was enhanced by her warmth and beautiful smile. She could make every day festive and festive days special and was a kind and thoughtful friend to all. A tireless volunteer, Lilian displayed her care for the people of every community in which she lived. In Baltimore, she was a leader in the Hispanic community, a founding member of the Baltimore-Cadiz Sister Cities program and received many commendations from the Mayor(s) of Baltimore for her service. She was also active in her church and served as a member of the Advisory Commission for the Archdiocese of Baltimore. In Bloomington, she was a regular volunteer at Community Kitchen and at St Charles Church. At the core of her life were the fundamental values of faith, charity, compassion, and family. She had strength of conviction and a determination that supported her family throughout the years. Lilian was the heart and soul of her family and will be missed greatly. A mass of Christian burial will be held on Friday, May 31st at 2:00 pm, at St. Charles Borromeo Church, Bloomington with Fr. Tom Kovatch presiding. A reception to follow at the church hall.
