Lois Nell (Roberts) Noel

Lois Nell (Roberts) Noel passed to her heavenly reward on Saturday, Jan. 11. She was a 4-year resident of Hearthstone Health Campus, where she had many friends and supporters among staff and fellow residents. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lucille and Fred Roberts, brothers Charles Buford and Paul, sister Charline, and husband Lester, and she was looking forward to reuniting with them all. She is survived by her daughter Lorenda (Chris) Schrader, grandchildren Sommer and Nick, brother Mertin, many nieces and nephews, and her dog Smokey. Lois began life on a farm, and was her dad’s milk delivery assistant, her sister’s encourager, and an avid student of her mother’s cooking. She loved school, and earned her master’s degree in 1962. She began a teaching career in 1954, and continued for 36 years - almost all of them at Rogers Elementary. She was so proud that her grand-daughter followed her into the teaching profession. She loved to travel, and she and Lester visited all 50 states, mostly in recreational vehicles. She was always up for a road trip! She was a great wife, mother, grandmother, sister and daughter - always putting everyone else’s needs first. Shortly after retirement, she even participated in a Habitat for Humanity blitz build in North Dakota, and was so pleased to have been kissed by Jimmy Carter. Her life was an example of resilience and spunk. She never let severe arthritis slow her down, she rebuilt her life after the death of her husband of 54 years, she lived independently until the age of 82 when a series of medical events caught up with her - but didn’t stop her. Caregivers enjoyed her spirit, sense of humor and even a bit of sassiness. She will be deeply missed, but we will all celebrate her journey and the example she set for us. Services will be handled by Allen Funeral Home and Crematory 4155 South Old State Road 37 on Friday, January 17, 2020 with visitation from 11:00 until 1:00PM with the service being held at 1:00PM. In lieu of flowers, please consider contributing new or gently used children’s books. They will be donated to Rogers Elementary School to assist new teachers with establishing their classroom library.
