Lucille Ritter Hedrick

Lucille Ritter Hedrick of Bloomington passed away on September 30, 2024. She had family at her side, at Richland Bean Blossom Health Care Center. She was born on August 30, 1928 in rural Lawrence County. She was the eighth of nine children born to Otto and Oma (Sowders) Ritter. She attended grade school at Donica and Heltonville Schools and graduated from Needmore High School in 1945. Following graduation she worked at RCA in Bloomington. She met Roger Lee Hedrick while roller skating at the Airport Roller Rink. They were married in Bloomington on February 14, 1948. They were married for almost 54 years until his death on February 3, 2002. She was employed as a secretary-bookkeeper and retired in 1986, after 25 years of service with South Indiana Conference of the United Methodist Church. Following retirement, Lucy enjoyed working part-time for Bloomington Parks and Recreation as the Senior Travel Coordinator. She also volunteered for Hospice of Bloomington Hospital, Bloomington Convalescent Center, Richland Bean Blossom Health Care Center, Clear Creek Elementary School, and RSVP. She was 60-year member of Fairview United Methodist Church. She was the assistant secretary, taught Sunday School in the children’s department, served on the Eucharist Team, and was active in the United Methodist Women. Lucy enjoyed being with people and cherished her friends in Charm-N-Chatter Mother’s Club, Eastside Club, Birthday Group, Scarlet McHatters, Domino and Euchre Groups, and Bible Study Fellowship. Survivors include one son, Roger Lee Hedrick II, and his wife Patsy (Lagenour) of Dubois, Indiana. She is survived by three grandchildren; Rachel Ferguson (Michael) of Pendleton, Indiana, Nicole Morris (Eric) of Bloomington, Andrea Malave (Gus) of Chula Vista, California, Two step granddaughters Sherry Rhoads (Brooks) of Dubois, Indiana and Shanell Dixon (Bob) of Montgomery, Indiana and one step grandson Billy Brock (Christine) of Charleston, Maine. She had 27 great grandchildren and was especially close to Conner and Jessica Sallee, Bradley, Tyler, and Samantha Morris, Alex Malave and Gracie Lindy. She is survived by a host of nieces and nephews. She was proceeded in death by her parents, her husband Roger L Hedrick, Three sisters, Evelyn Cracraft, Ada Deckard, Mary Louise Ritter, five brothers, Ervin (Bud), Ellis (Red), Elbert (Honey), Ermal (Joe Buck) and Otis and all of their spouses. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00am Thursday, October 10, 2024 at the Allen Funeral Home, 4155 S Old State Road 37, Bloomington. Burial will follow at Clear Creek Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 5:00pm to 8:00pm Wednesday, October 9, 2024 and Thursday, October 10, 2024 from 10:00am until time of service also at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Sherwood Oaks Christian Church in care of Allen Funeral Home. Allen Funeral Home and Crematory have been entrusted with arrangements.
