Martha Pearl Abel

Martha P. Abel, 84 of Bloomington, IN, passed away on Sunday, November 20, 2022 at IU Health Bloomington Hospital. She was born on February 3, 1938 in Vincennes, IN; to Joseph Boyer and Ruby (Hemminger/Decker) Boyer. She was married to Roy L. Abel in 1972. She was a loving wife, mother, step-mother, grandmother, and great grandmother who loved her family dearly. She loved God and made sure her children learned about Him. She is survived by daughter Cindy (Kearby) Pridemore and her husband Roger, daughter Julie (Kearby) McQueen and her husband Eric, son Samuel Kearby and his wife Barbara, and step-son Ernest (Lee) Abel. Also surviving are grandchildren Dusty (Pridemore) Simmons, Christopher Pridemore, Joshua Kearby, Bridget Kearby, Devin McQueen, great grandchildren Alex Simmons, and Avery Simmons, sister Lucinda Tabor, brother LeRoy Boyer, and sister Joyce Moore. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother Kenneth Boyer and sister Linda Hawkins. Martha attended French Lick High School, French Lick, IN. She did many jobs over her lifetime including owning and driving a school bus for Loogootee Community School for several years and working for Crane Army Ammunition Activity as an Explosive Technician. After retiring from Crane she purchased a Travel Trailer and spent the winters in Harlingen, Texas. She loved to make quilts for her family and friends and did the quilting for many quilts that were given to kids going into the foster care system. Martha was a member of the Westside Community Church, Bloomington, IN. She participated in a Bible Study weekly with her sweet friends from church. With her years of experience in life’s ups and downs she tried to help others by listening and providing insight for them to consider. She will be missed greatly by all her family and friends. Allen Funeral Home and Crematory, 4155 South Old State Road 37 in Bloomington, will be hosting the visitation and funeral service on Monday, November 28, 2022. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. with the service beginning at 1:00 p.m. John Robertson will be officiating the service. Burial will follow at Burns City Cemetery in Burns City, IN.
