Marvin King Helms

Marvin King Helms, Bloomfield, Indiana, went peacefully to meet his Heavenly Father, on Thursday, May 5th, 2016, at IU Hospice House, surrounded by his family. He was 77 years old, and lived a life devoted to his family, service to his Country, and his love for country music. He was born in Greene County to Otis Helms and Marjorie (Terrell) Helms on August 22nd, 1938. He graduated from Bloomfield High School in 1956. He enlisted in the Air Force in 1957 and served 4 years as a Radar Operator. He served two years in the Air Force Reserve and was recalled during the Cuban Missile Crisis. Many people in Greene County remember him for his more than 20 years at Hord’s Auto Supply. He was a Union Electrician for over 10 years. He retired as a painter refurbishing the ALQ-99 Pods for the EA6B Aircraft at NSWC, Crane in 2001. He was a Lifetime Member of the Bloomfield American Legion. His hobbies included spending time outdoors, gardening, woodworking, playing guitar, and he had an appreciation for Danica Patrick Racing. Marvin is survived by his wife Lela whom he married on April 16, 1993 and his trusted pets Danica and Miss Kitty. He is also survived by his 7 children Marla (Paul) Eschbacher, Barbara (Quentin) Hays, Michael Helms, Lorie (Jeff) Waters, Dennis Bradley, Joe Bradley, and Rhonda (Wayne) Bashaw. Also surviving are 13 grandchildren, Angie (Bill) England, Krystal (Jathan) Wright, Betty Speer, Jeremy Helms, Rebecca Hays, Whitney Richardson, Logan Richardson, Christina Bradley, Brandi Bradley, Nathan Bradley, Steven Bradley, Brittany Bashaw and Shelby Bashaw, and 17 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Alice Hallett, brother-In-Law Roy Dotts, son Danny Bradley, granddaughter Katrina McDonald, and grandson Adam Bradley. There will be a celebration of life held at his home located at 635 Cold Springs Road, Bloomfield, IN on June 4th at 1 p.m. Donations in Lieu of flowers may be made in Memory of “Marvin Helms” to: Fresenius Dialysis Center, 1204 N. 1000 W, Linton, IN 47441 or IU Health Hospice House, 2810 S.
