Mary Ann (Machado) Johnson

Mary Ann (Machado) Johnson, 77, of Bloomington, passed away on Thursday, October 17, 2024 at the IU Health Bloomington Hospital with her family by her side. She was born on August 26, 1947 in Taunton, Massachusetts, the daughter of Joseph Bent and Marguerite Mary (Rudolphi) Machado. She was a 1965 graduate of Taunton High School South. She married the love of her life, Jimmie Dean Johnson, on June 22, 1968 in Taunton, Massachusetts, and they were happily married for fifty-six years. Mary Ann worked as a Tech Writer at Bankers Life Insurance Company and then after moving to Bloomington, Indiana, raised her children until becoming a Teacher Assistant at Grandview Elementary. She worked at Grandview for over thirty years before retiring. Most of all, Mary Ann adored her family and especially enjoyed spending time with her husband, kids, and grandchildren. She loved taking long walks with friends and family on the Clear Creek trail and spent lots of time working around the house and in her flower garden. For entertainment, she liked going to IU Women’s basketball games with her husband and friends. Mary Ann was a member of St. John’s the Apostle Catholic Church and served in the Women’s Club there for many years. She will be greatly missed. Mary Ann is survived by her husband, Jimmie D. Johnson of Bloomington; her children, Dana (Eric) Oxender of Bloomington; Christopher (Beth) Johnson of Elmhurst, IL; three grandchildren, Lauren Oxender; Emily Oxender and Finley Johnson; her brother, Peter Machado of Taunton; two sisters Lynn (Bobby) McElroy and Lisa Dunlap both of Taunton; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph & Marguerite Machado; her brother, Anthony Machado; her sister, Lori Desmaris; and her niece Keri Machado. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 6:30pm Friday, October 25, 2024 at the St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church with Father Thomas Kovatch Officiating. Visitation will be held from 4:30pm to time-of-service Friday, October 25, 2024, also at the St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church. Cremation rites have been accorded. Memorial contributions may be made in her name to the American Cancer Society. Allen Funeral Home and Crematory have been entrusted with arrangements.
