Mary "Pat" Doyle

Mary "Pat" Doyle, 88, of Bloomington, passed away Friday at the IU Health Bloomington. She was born on March 3, 1924 in Bloomington, IN, the daughter of Michael and Mary (Bowman) Doyle. During World War II, Pat worked as a Jr. Engineer for Curtis-Wright in Buffalo after answering the country's call for aeronautical engineers. She returned to Indiana University where she obtained a BS in 1947 and was a member of the Delta Gamma Sorority. Later, in 1964, Pat received her MA from New School of Social Research, NYC. After the war, she took a position at Proctor & Gamble doing marketing research throughout the U.S. and Canada. From there, she was recruited by Western Electric in Indianapolis as an Employment Interviewer and Placement Coordinator. After leaving Western Electric, Pat decided to go to Europe where she worked briefly for the Dependent Schools in Frankfort, Germany. She returned to the U.S. and acquired a position at Standard Oil of New Jersey in New York City and became the "Energy Expert" working in New York, Houston, and lastly in London for Esso Europe. After living in London for over 30 years, Pat returned to Bloomington in 2004 and was living at Meadowood Retirement Community. Pat was generous and compassionate to all. One of the many charities that benefited from Pat's kindness was the Jesuit Refugee Service, which is located in East Africa. She was actively involved in raising money for this organization and some of her activities involved running bridge clubs, quiz nights, wine tastings, and bake sales, to help the refugees. She was proud to be the first American to be elected to serve as the 'Lady Captain at Malden Golf Club in Surry, England. She is survived by her niece Kate Sprague (Michael); four nephews Patrick Doyle (Gale), Michael Doyle (Elizabeth), Peter Donohue (Shirley) and Jim Donohue; and many great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother Richard B. Doyle and a sister Elizabeth Joan Doyle. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 3, 2012 at the St. Paul Catholic Center, where friends may call from 10:00 a.m. until time of service. Burial will follow at Valhalla Memory Gardens.
