Mildred Thompson

Mildred Thompson, 87, of Bloomington, Indiana went to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, October 16, 2023 at home with family by her side. She was born on May 20, 1936 in Bloomington, Indiana, the daughter of Raymond H. and Geneva (Waldrip) Cain. Mildred was a 1954 graduate of University High School in Bloomington and served as the 1954 President of the University High School Future Homemakers of America. She married the love of her life Forrest Gene Thompson on February 13, 1961 in Bloomington, Indiana. Mildred worked as an accountant for Bloomington Tire Company for over forty-four years before retiring. She was a member of Burgoon Baptist Church, and the Disabled American Veterans in Bloomfield, Indiana. Mildred enjoyed cooking her famous soggy chocolate cakes, sewing new knees in both her grandson’s pants after they would wear them out as children, shopping at Kohls with granddaughter in law Jessica, watching game shows or shark tank for hours on end and watching NASCAR every Sunday with her grandson Eric, where for some unbeknownst reason she was a fan of Denny Hamlin. She especially loved spending time with grandchildren and her family and friends. She will be greatly missed by all who loved and knew her. Mildred is survived by her step-daughter, Sharon (Sonny) Scrogham of Bowling Green, Indiana, grandchildren, Eric (Jessica) Thompson of Bloomington, Jacob Thompson of Bloomington, Mary (Lucius) Olsen of Jasper, and great grandchild, Grayson Olsen of Jasper, brother Dwight (Lorene) Cain of Bloomington, and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Especially Randy and Sue Waldrip, Guy and Brenda Armstrong; Paul and Peg Hobbs and Hilda Elkins who has been her best friend since childhood. She was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond & Geneva Cain; husband, Forrest Thompson, Son Eric Thompson, step-daughter Janice Thompson, daughter-in-law Dana Thompson/Trimmer, sister Jane Cain, and her gran-dog Hoosier. Visitation will be held Monday October 23, 2023 at 11 am at the Allen Funeral Home 4155 S. Old ST RD 37 Bloomington with funeral services to follow at 2 pm. Rev John Woods will be officiating. Burial will follow at the Solsberry Cemetery. Memorial Contributions may be made to the Burgoon Baptist Church. Allen Funeral Home and Crematory, 4155 S.
