Nancy Hawes Hillen

Nancy Hawes Hillen, 90, of Bloomington passed away Thursday, October 26, 2017 with her family by her side. She was born on November 30, 1926 in Wickham Skeith, England the daughter of Arthur John and Anna Marie (Stringer) Hawes. She attended Wickham Skeith high school in England. Nancy married Fredrick Edward Harry Hillen on March 15, 1952 in England. She was a survivor of WWII in England during all the bombing’s. She moved to America in the 1960’s with her three daughters. She worked for Hoards Hardware Store in Bloomfield for several years, and then she worked as a private caregiver until retirement. In later years, she married Vernard Hutson on May 5, 1990 in Ellettsville, Indiana. Nancy was a member of the Stoneybrook Community Church of God, she enjoyed gardening, baking, knitting, she knitted baby hats and booties for the babies of the Bloomington Hospital for years, ballroom dancing, traveling, and she loved Christmas it was her favorite time of the year, she also loved her family and spending time with family and friends, she will be greatly missed by all who loved and knew her. Nancy is survived by her daughters; Lori Anne Hillen (James) Boruff of Bloomington, Alison Jayne Hillen of New Haven, IL, Caroline Rose Hillen (Joe) Myers of Bloomington, five grandchildren, Colleen Weaver, Christopher Hillen, Justin Buskirk, Timothy Buskirk and Quinton Myers, and five great grandchildren, Brittany McLain, Nathan Logsdon, Hayden, Hunter and Hadlea Buskirk, and three great great grandchildren, and one nephew. Her parents, two husbands, two sisters Beatrice Hawes and Pansy Duncan, a step brother Michael Cook, and a niece Gwen Lester, and one Infant nephew Arthur S. Duncan preceded her in death. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm Wednesday, November 1, 2017 at the Allen Funeral Home & Crematory 4155 S. Old St Rd 37, Bloomington. With Rev. Stephen McCart officiating. Burial will follow at the Walnut Grove Cemetery in Bloomfield, Indiana. Visitation will be held from 12:00 pm to service time Wednesday, November 1, 2017 at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made in Nancy’s name to the Monroe County animal shelter or The Stoneybrook Community Church of God.
