Opal M. Fort

Opal Marie Fort, 77, of Gosport passed away on Monday, November 22, 2021 at her home with her family by her side. She was born on July 26, 1944 in Anderson, Indiana, the daughter of Otto Wallace and Vivian Irene (Koeniger) Whitehead. She was a 1962 graduate of Fayetteville High School and was a graduate of Indiana Wesleyan University with an Associate Degree in Business. Opal worked for Indiana Bell and AT&T for over 30 years before retiring in 2006. She attended St John’s the Apostle Catholic Church. She was a volunteer for St Vincent DePaul Society and was a supporter of St Jude Children’s Hospital and other philanthropic organizations. Opal enjoyed volunteering and working outside at her home and taking care of her beloved horse, Cheyenne. She enjoyed going out to eat with her close circle of friends and family. She loved her children, granddaughter Sierra, great-granddaughter Olivia, and extended family. She will be greatly missed by all who loved and knew her. Opal is survived by her two children, Melissa A. Fort and Gerald F. (Frank) Fort both of New Castle, Indiana; a granddaughter, Sierra (Greg) Toumanian of Pittsburgh, Pa; a great-granddaughter, Olivia Toumanian of Pittsburgh; her sister, Roberta (Tedi) (Denny) Josephson of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida; four nieces, Mona Mellinger, Laura Johnson, Brenda McConell, and Karen Braden; four nephews, Kenny Whitehead, Rick Whitehead, Jim Srygler, Michael Whitehead; special cousins Liz Dorsey (goddaughter) and Richard Whitehead and many other cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Joe Whitehead and Rev. Robert Whitehead; three sisters, Patricia Bentrum, Barbara Sizelove, and Judy Livermore. Memorial contributions may be made to the animal shelter of your choice in Opal’s name. There are no services scheduled at this time. Cremation Rites have been accorded. Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Allen Funeral Home and Crematory have been entrusted with arrangements.
