Patricia "Pat" M. Meier

Patricia (Pat) Meier of Bloomington, Indiana passed away on Sunday, August 23, 2026. She was born in Elwood, Indiana on July 08, 1937, to Lawrence R. and Marguerite (Gunning) Parker who proceeded her in death. She was also proceeded in death by her brother, Lawrnce P. Parker. She was married to William (Bill) Meier, her high-school sweetheart, for 44 years before his death in 2004. Pat graduated from Arsenal Technical High School in Indianapolis, IN and attended the Downtown Indianapolis IU Extension (prior to IUPUI) while employed as a secretary at Eli Lilly & Co. in Indianapolis. In the late 1980’s, while caring for her parents, Pat became an active member of DEBUT, a support group for daughters caring for their frail, elderly parents. She contributed a chapter to the book DEBUT wrote in 1988, “Daughters of the Elderly” which was published by the IU Press. The group received nationwide attention as the issue caregivers faced had not been recognized and would not be until well in the 1990’s. Pat and other members participated in workshops in Indiana and several other states. DEBUT was a very special organization to Pat, and she continued active in the group many years after her parents had passed. Pat volunteered at Catholic Social Services in Bloomington for 12 years and found the experience to be especially rewarding. Pat was a member of St. Paul Catholic Center in Bloomington and was a eucharistic minister for many years. Pat had many interests, among them, her love of music. She enjoyed many years of attending plays, musical programs, etc. at the IU Auditorium and “Coffee Pops” performances by the Indianapolis Symphony. Pat also enjoyed time spend with friends seeing movies (Pat was a film noir buff) playing Mahjongg, and her water aerobics class and friends at the YMCA. Pat and her best friend, Janet Worland, spent many happy times together over the years visiting and traveling. Pat is survived by her sons, Stephen (Maggie) of Evansville, Indiana and Eric (Amanda) of Bloomington, Indiana. She is also survived by her seven grandsons; Alex Elkins, Eli and Garret Meier of Evansville, Indiana and Cade, Cody, Conner and Cameron Meier of Bloomington, Indiana. Pat loved being a grandmother and all “her boys” were very special to her, each in their own distinctive ways. Pat is also survived by her Brother-in-Law John Meier (Aileen) of Columbia City, Indiana as well as several nieces, nephews and their families. Visitation will be on Friday, August 28, 2026, at Allen Funeral Home (4155 S. Old State Road 37) in Bloomington, Indiana from 5-8pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be on Saturday, August 29, 2026, at 10am at St. Paul Catholic Center in Bloomington, Indiana. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Paul Catholic Center.
