Paul N. Ferree

Paul Norman Ferree was born in Bloomington, Indiana, on March 12, 1926 and passed away on January 24, 2015. He was the son of George Powell Ferree and Zella Felkner Ferree. He graduated from Bloomington High School. He served in the Marine Corp during World War II and served in the south Pacific, receiving a Purple Heart on Iowa Jima. Upon returning to Bloomington, he began his career as a carpenter, working in Bloomington and Indianapolis on light and heavy construction such as bridges, large buildings, houses and apartments for over 50 years. Later, he worked for Wininger Construction and helped his sons, George and John Ferree, start Ferree Brothers Construction. Later, he became a real estate salesman and broker. Paul and his wife, Dorothy, and four children have lived in California, as well as, Indiana. They, also, traveled in most all of the United States. Paul was a born again Christian. He was an avid reader of the Bible and a Sunday School teacher to adults, teaching over 5000 Sunday school lessons. Those who were in attendance in his classes were from all walks of life; doctors, lawyers, college professors and many who were like himself. Those that he knew and worked with came from a large number of people, whose character and discipline greatly varied from each other. From the personal acquaintance and fellowship that he had with them, Paul learned from each of them. He listened to them tell of their joys, sufferings, likes and dislikes, their good times, as well as, their failures and disappointments. Paul enjoyed oil painting and making furniture. He authored 3 books and wrote over 500 poems. Most of all, Paul loved his family. Paul leaves behind his wife Phyllis Mitchell Ferree; children Rebecca Ferree Carpenter, George Ferree and wife Debra, Jeanne Rogero and husband Nick, John Ferree and wife Debbie; Step children Jeri Hunt and husband Jim, Kelly J. McNeely and husband John, Vicki L. McGlocklin and husband Scott and Brian A. Mitchell and wife Shelley. Also surviving are grand children Matthew Ferree, Landon Ferree and wife Amanda, Kory and wife Shanna, Katie Hawkins and husband Chad, Christopher Ferree, Natalie Somesan and partner Kyle Records, Paul Carpenter and wife Katie, Kyle Carpenter and wife Holly, David Carpenter and wife Allie, John Robert Ingalls; step grand children Sarah Mobley and husband Pat, Eric Hayes and wife Jennifer, Leah Hayes, Cole McNeely, Kelsey and Taylor McGlocklin, and Travis and Caitlin Mitchell, and twelve great grandchildren. Paul is also survived by siblings Evelyn Polley and husband Kenny, Herb Ferree and wife Lois, Jane Hamilton and husband Dennis, and Helen Brummett-Shryock and husband Marshall. He was preceded in death by his parents, and a sister Wanda Jackson. Funeral services will be held Thursday January 29, 2015 at 1:00PM at the Evangelical Christian Church 503 South High Street. Burial will follow in the Clear Creek Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Wednesday January 28, 2015 from 3:00PM until 8:00PM at Allen Funeral Home and Crematory 4155 South Old Highway 37 as well as on Thursday from 12 Noon until the time of the service at 1:00PM a the church.
