Richard Haynes Cooper

Richard Haynes Cooper, age 87 of Bloomington passed away early Friday morning December 12, 2014 at the Indiana University Health Bloomington Hospital. He was born in Kokomo, Indiana February 10, 1927 to Gayl Emerson and Ruth Haynes Cooper. Richard was a graduate of Kokomo High School, Culver Military Academy and Butler University. He went on to serve in the United Sates Army. He worked as the Manager in the Purchasing Department at Indiana University for 30 years. He was a member of the Sigma Nu fraternity, First Presbyterian Church, the Elks Lodge, and the American Legion. He was a regular participant at the YMCA, and a volunteer for "Meals on Wheels". He was also an avid golfer, tennis player and enjoyed boating and fishing. Richard leaves behind his wife of 62 years, Gertrude "Peggy" Cooper of Bloomington, Indiana; daughter Gayle R. Cooper Kimmell and husband Jim of Fishers, Indiana; son Kenneth P. Cooper and his wife Debbie of Eldridge, Iowa; daughter Carolyn Cooper Coyne and her husband T. Stephen of Carmel, Indiana; son Keith D. Cooper and his husband Timothy Kelly Briggs of Mays Landing, New Jersey; son Dann W. Cooper and his wife Dixie Dee of Bloomington; Indiana. Grandchildren: Jacob H. Kimmell, Mathew H. Cooper, Paul W. Cooper, Abby Berntgen, Thomas S. Coyne and Michael W. Coyne; grandchildren by marriage Debbie Ewin, David Brewster and Julie Mumma. Also surviving are great-grandchildren Kainan and Carter Cooper, Ben Kimmell, Cutler Cooper, Zachary, Richard and Kayden Ortiz, Daytona Ewin, Danielle and Alyssa McCrary; nieces and nephews Douglas Cameron, Martha Richardson, Catherine Cooper and Peter Cooper. Richardsʼs sister Barbara Edwards of Atlanta Georgia and brother John "Jack" Cooper of Naples Florida also survive. His parents, granddaughter Sarah Cooper, brother in laws Ray Cameron and Glen Edwards, as well as sister in law, Jean Cooper preceded him in death. Visitation will be held at Allen Funeral Home on Monday December 15, 2014 from 4:00PM until 8:00PM. Funeral services for Richard will be held Tuesday December 16, 2014 at 11:00AM at First Presbyterian Church, 221 East Sixth Street. Pastor Andrew Kort will preside and burial will follow in the Valhalla Memory Gardens.
