Roger D. Chandler

Roger D. Chandler passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Friday, May 15, 2026. Roger was born in Clarksville, Indiana, to Chester and Wilma Chandler on November 17, 1942. He graduated from Bloomington High School in 1960 and went on to pursue higher education at Indiana University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting in 1964. Roger later attended Indiana University School of Law. In 1967, Roger enlisted in the United States Army, a service he took great pride in throughout his life. Roger was married for 57 years to the love of his life, Jeremy (Faris) Chandler. Together they raised four children and built a life centered on love, faith, and family. Roger was a humble and modest man who never sought recognition for himself. He loved the outdoors, enjoyed history, cherished his canine companions Tank and Lizzie, and was a devoted IU basketball fan — one might say he bled cream and crimson. His faith was a guiding force in his life, and he faithfully served as an elder at Southside Christian Church for 40 years. Above all else, Roger found his greatest joy in being a grandfather and great-grandfather. Roger is survived by his loving wife, Jeremy Chandler; his children, Jeri Lucile Betar, Lisa Jean Chandler, Jennifer Dawn (Will) Craft, and Craig Roger (Kerry Lorenc) Chandler; his grandchildren, Caitlyn Betar, Michael Betar IV, Dawson (Mary Kinzel) Hood, Whitney (Noah) May, Jocelyn (Tyler) Collins, Brandon (Paola) Altop, and Maggie Craft; and his great-grandchildren, Zackary Altop, Zane Altop, Mateo Altop, Sofia Altop, Izzy Lou May, and Lincoln May. He is also survived by his brothers, Michael Chandler and David Chandler, and his sister, Nancy Barritt. Roger was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Phillip Chandler; his in-laws, Elmo and Lucile Faris; and his son-in-law, Michael Betar III. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Tunnels to Towers Foundation or Southside Christian Church. Allen Funeral Home and Crematory, 4155 South Old State Road 37, has been entrusted with the arrangements. Visitation for the public will be held from 3:00 PM until 7:00 PM on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, at Allen Funeral Home and Crematory. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM on Thursday, May 21, 2026, at Allen Funeral Home and Crematory, officiating will be Brad Taylor and Keith Wisley. The burial will follow.
