Terry Lee Long

Terry Lee Long, 63, passed away Friday, October 5, 2012 at IU Health-Bloomington Hospital, after a very courageous, 10 month, fight against small cell lung cancer. Terry was born March 8, 1949 in Bloomington,IN the son of Joseph W. Long and Thelma I. (Abram) Long. Terry started working at a very young age helping in his parents' grocery store, Long's Grocery, which was located at the corner of Kirby Road and Whitehall Pike. He graduated from Bloomington High School in 1967. In 1967, after graduating he began working for Alexander Electric until joining the Army. Terry married his high school sweetheart, Katrina Lynn Jacobs on June 1, 1968. He entered the U.S. Army in March, 1969 and served the rest of his duty in Kaiserslautern, Germany. Terry left the Army in March of 1971. After leaving the Army, Terry began working as an electrician. In 1977 he co-founded LB Electric, later becoming Electric Services Inc. and in the last few years added plumbing to become Electric Services and Plumbing Inc. He was a member of American Legion Post 18 and Liberty Church of Christ in Hendricksville. Terry has been a very successful businessman. He is a person who was a help to everyone and was respected and loved by all who knew him. He was the most selfless, caring person who even in the last few days, with devastating news, said you have to keep the faith, it could be worse, trying to protect his loved ones from the pain of what he was going through. If asked, "Terry, how are you? " his answer was "I'm fine". Even Friday morning, he was still "fine or pretty good". He always said if you think you have it bad, just look around it could be worse. Terry was preceded in death by his father, Joseph W. Long on July 28, 1982, and his mother, Thelma I. (Abram) Long, February 21, 2008, his maternal grandparents, Elmer and Josephine (Stephen) Abram, paternal grandparents, Clarence L. and Ella Marie (Way) Long and father-in-law, Eugene Jacobs on March 9, 2010. He is survived by his loving wife, Katrina L. (Jacobs) Long, son Steven D. Long and wife Mindy of Bloomington, daughter Jana L. Long, and grandson Brayden, two brothers, Joseph "Butch" Long and wife Kathy of Tucson, AZ, and John S. Long of Shreveport, LA, one sister, Tamera J. Mundy and husband Ed of Spencer, Indiana. mother-in-law, Florence E. Jacobs, sisters-in-law, Kathy L. Ragan and husband George of San Antonio, TX, and Lisa G. Jacobs and son Dolan of Bloomington, IN and brother-in-law, Steve E. Jacobs of Bloomington, IN. Also surviving are several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank Dr. Ghosh for the longtime support and care he offered Terry and Katrina through the years, to Dr. Koneru and office staff for the care and support over the last 10 months and especially to the staff of the Oncology Unit at IU Health Bloomington for taking excellent care of Terry and our family during his short stay there. We will be forever grateful for all the love, support and prayers by our family and friends during this time. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 10th at Allen Funeral Home with Bro. Keevin Gray officiating. Burial will be at Valhalla Memory Gardens where the Monroe Co. Veterans Honor Guard will conduct Military Graveside Rites. Friends may call on Tuesday from 4:00-9:00 p.m. and one hour preceding the services on Wednesday at the funeral home.
