Troy L. Gilliland

Troy L. Gilliland, 60, of Martinsville, formerly Bloomington, died unexpectedly on December 11th at his residence. He was born in Bloomington, Indiana, on February 23rd, 1962, to Ronald and Janice (Anderson) Gilliland. A graduate of Bloomington North High School Class of 1980, he attended business classes at IVY Tech College, and obtained Indiana Real Estate and Auctioneer Licenses. He is survived by Melissa (Sarchet); his wife of forty years. Troy was originally employed for twenty years Anco Sales, Inc., and next in the construction industry for twenty-five years with R.H. Marlin, Inc. and Weddle Bros. He previously enjoyed auctioneering with E&L Auctions, Peacock Roost Auctions, and USAA Amusement Auctions. He was the past and current Master of Stanford Lodge #173. Troy previously attended New Prospect Baptist Church. He was an avid outdoorsman, and enjoyed spending time with nature, loved horses, hunting, bird watching, and mushroom hunting. Troy enjoyed collecting old tools, tractors, and other antiques. He enjoyed a good nap in the sunshine and a pitcher of iced tea. Troy was always there for family, neighbors, and friends. He was the best husband to Melissa, they shared everything life offered - together. They made a great team supporting each other in every way. He truly was a dedicated father and treasured his sons immensely, enjoyed sharing his wisdom with them and spending time together. Troy was head-over-heels with his new role as Pop-Pop, it didn’t get any better than that for him. Troy will be greatly missed by his wife Melissa, mother Janice; sons, Jeremiah (Nicole) Gilliland of Greenwood, IN, and Christopher Gilliland of Bloomington, IN; brother Tony (Cheryl) Gilliland of Bloomington, IN; sister Heather (A.J.) Whitlow of Ellettsville, IN; and precious granddaughter Kaelin Gilliland, Greenwood, IN. Mother-in-law Lorelle Sarchet, sister-in-law Beth Sarchet (Doug O’Mullane), and Christine Combs, all of Bloomington. Sister-in-law Connie (George) Krier of Carmel, Indiana. Brother-in-laws Richard Sarchet (Linda) and David Sarchet, all of Bloomington. Nieces and Nephews: Julie Markland (Joel), Aaron Knight (Krista), Natalie (Craig) Mince, Scott (Sarah) Krier, David Knight, Brian Krier, Allison (Scott Rogers) Knight, Garrett (Olivia) Sarchet, Patrick Krier, Amanda (Chelsey Eads) Gilliland, Sarah Gilliland, and Evan Whitlow. Great nieces and nephews: Reagan, Ava, and Brenna Markland; Isaiah and Trevor Knight, Layne Gerber-Rogers and Dorothy Fisher, Madeline Mince, Addison Krier, Tucker and Max Sarchet. Additionally he is survived by many dear cousins and friends that he loved and cared about deeply. Troy was preceded in death by his father Ron Gilliland; father-in-law Max Sarchet, grandparents: Hubert and Elsie Anderson; and Edward and Lucille Gilliland. A visitation for Troy will be held on Saturday, December 17th, 2022, from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. at Allen Funeral Home and Crematory, 4155 South Old Highway 37 Bloomington, Indiana 47401.
