Victoria Bernal Guzman

Victoria Bernal Guzman, 95, Bloomington, Indiana passed away in her sleep on January 8, 2021 after a long battle with chronic pain. Victoria was known as “Mom” to her only son, Manuel Guzman and as “Mamá Vicky” to her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Mamá Vicky was born on June 14, 1925 to Pedro Bernal and Eugenia Galavis Bernal in Mercedes, Texas. She is predeceased by her parents and all of her siblings (Porferio Bernal, Robert Bernal, Christina Bernal Perez and Paulino Bernal). And, she is also predeceased by her husband, Rafael Guzman Jr. and their only son, Manuel Guzman. Victoria is survived by her daughter-in-law, her two grandchildren and their spouses and her two great-grandchildren: her daughter-in-law, Shirley L. Guzman; her granddaughter and her husband, Melissa Guzman Groenewold and Matthew R. Groenewold; her grandson and his wife, Charles Manuel Guzman and Stella Guzman; her great-grandson, Levi Rafael Groenewold; and her great-granddaughter, Arizona Hope Guzman. Victoria was a devoted mother and grandmother. She was an artist, who loved quilting, drawing, sewing, altar building, origami, singing and dancing. She was a healer, a memory keeper and an extraordinary storyteller. Our Mamá Vicky was a force. She worked hard all of her life and even at the age of 95 was strong, swift and energetic. This is a devastating loss for our family, yet we are comforted to know that Mamá Vicky is now walking and dancing with our Papí (Rafael Guzman Sr.) and our dear husband, father and grandfather, Manuel Guzman. O Señora mía, Santa María, lleno de confianza en ti, a tu especial cuidado y amorosa misericordia me confío hoy, todos los días y en la hora de mi muerte; te confío mi alma y mi cuerpo, mis esperanzas y alegrías, mis penas y miserias, mi vida y el fin de ella, para que, por tu santísima intercesión y por tus méritos, todas mis acciones sean dirigidas y gobernadas por tu voluntad y la de tu Hijo. Amén. There will be a small burial service for immediate family members only. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be sent to the Alzheimer’s Association. Allen Funeral Home and Crematory 4155 South Old State Road 37 is handling the arrangements and online condolences, photos and memories may be shared with family and friends.
