Wallace Stewart

Wallace E. Stewart, 79 of Bloomington IN, passed away on Friday, July 14, 2017. He was born in Ellettsville, IN to Clarence and Freeda Stewart on October 18, 1937, the second of three sons. Wallace met Frances Sue Morris in 1957. They were married on June 2, 1963. Wallace graduated from Ellettsville High School in 1955. He was Student Body President. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Education degree from Franklin College in 1961 and received his Master of Science in Education Degree from Butler University in 1966. In 1968 Wallace became the principal at Newby Memorial Elementary. In 1971 he moved to Neil A. Armstrong Elementary, in Mooresville, IN. He retired in May 1994 after working for 33 years in education. Wallace worked for the Indiana University Athletic Department throughout his life starting at the age of 10. He worked in the ticket office, concessions, ushered and drove for the various teams. After retiring, Wallace spent his time working on his family farm and became a commercial tour bus driver. He drove for the military, universities and tour groups. He continued to work up until May 2017. He was a member of numerous professional and civic organizations including: the Masonic Lodge, Kiwanis Club, the Indiana Aero-space Education Council, Phi Delta Kappa Teaching Fraternity, First United Methodist Church and various national education associations. Wallace is survived by his wife Frances Sue; son Michael (Misty) Stewart of Middletown, Maryland; daughter Heather (Jeffrey) Brand of Waterloo Iowa; six grandchildren Madison, Meredith, Nicole, Joe, Steven and Brittany; Brother Paul (Barbara) Stewart of Greensboro, North Carolina; nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his parents, brother Glen (Dorothy) Stewart, cousins Garreth Blackwell and Barbara Deckard. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. with a masonic service immediately following on Saturday, August 5th at Allen Funeral Home, 4155 S. Old State Road 37, Bloomington. Family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until the time of service. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
