William D. "Bill" Dudley

William D. “Bill” Dudley, 91, of Bloomington passed away on Wednesday, July 24, 2024 at the IU Health Hospice House. He was born on July 10, 1933 in Bloomington, Indiana the son of Reece and Virginia Avanell (Waggoner) Dudley. Bill was a 1951 graduate of Smithville High School. He married the love of his life Mary Jo Mitchell on October 10, 1953 in Bloomington and they celebrated seventy years of marriage last October. Bill was a proud US Air Force Veteran serving two tours in Vietnam before retiring as a Master Sergeant after twenty years of service in 1973. After retiring from the Air Force Bill started his own business Field Maintenance working on heavy equipment in the Bloomington area for over forty years before retiring. His greatest joy was being a husband, father and grandfather. He and Mary Jo loved traveling in their truck and camper going to bluegrass festivals and sprint car races, he also enjoyed working, and helping others. He will be greatly missed by all who loved and knew him. Bill was a member of the Harrodsburg Methodist Church, Stanford Masonic Lodge #173, and the Harrodsburg Lyons Club, He was also a faithful volunteer for the Veterans Administration driving veterans to the VA Hospital in Indianapolis for many years. Bill is survived by his wife, Mary Jo Dudley of Bloomington; his children, Shelia (Lee) Goodman of Bloomfield; Greg Dudley of Springville; Bryan (Colleen) Dudley of Murfreesboro, TN; his granddaughters, Maria (Terrill) Vaughn; Danielle (Josh) Jones; Rachel (Jeff) McCutcheon; his nine great grandchildren and he has one more on the way; and three great great grandchildren; one brother, Sam(Brenda) Dudley of Bloomington; one sister, Carol (Bruce) Douthitt of Stinesville; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, Reece & Virginia Dudley; his brother, Bob Dudley, and two grandsons, Tim Goodman and Jeffrey Dudley. A funeral service will be held at 2:00pm on Tuesday, July 30, 2024 at the Allen Funeral Home 4155 S. Old St RD 37 in Bloomington. With Rev. Matt Hinshaw officiating. Burial will follow at the Smithville Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 2:00pm to 8:00pm Monday July 29, 2024 at the Allen Funeral Home and also on Tuesday from 12:00pm to service time at the funeral home. In Lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Harrodsburg Methodist Church or the Smithville Food Bank.
